i use Queen Helene Tea Tree and Ginseng Hot Oil Treatment instead of conditioner - its so nice. I dont use it hot though...it would be too heavy....
when i cant get the Queen Helene (only available in the US - I spent time in Australia) i use De'Lorenzo shampoo and conditioners...they are soooo nice! you have to get it from a salon though, not at the grocery store or wal-mart...

John Freida is the best! I use it every night in the shower and it always makes my hair smooth, silky, and really easy to brush. It gets rid of basically every single tangle!

for a non-commercial conditioner, mayonnaise works really well. But it's a bit messy for everyday use.
