Hiccups are actually spasms of your diaphragm. If you perform something called "square breathing", you can stop hiccups 95% of the time. They are usually caused by irregular breathing.

Square Breathing:
1.. Inhale for a count of 4.
2. Hold for a count of 4.
3. Exhale for a count of 4.
4. Hold for a count of 4.

Repeat if necessary.

I get them alot too. Some people think it has to do with your breathing habits or eating too quickly. To make them go away try swallowing a spoonful of peanut butter (it's hard but works most of the time). They say a spoon full of sugar might help too, or drink water fast but don't choke on it. Holding your breathe in and out one after the other helps too, repeat that process about 2 times and if you do it right it may work.
