Just commenting on "mybloodruns" comment....if SHE knew anything about birds...she'd know that adult birds do not abandon their babies if they are touched by humans...that is an old wives tale and completely untrue.

I've been told by animal rescue groups to try to leave it where you found it for a couple hours. (making sure it's kept safe from cats, or dogs etc) The reason is- it could be a baby learning to fly and the mommy will hear it's distress calls. Or, if it's an older bird, it could be stunned (from running into a window, for example) and it probably just needs some time to recouperate. So try leaving for a few hours, while you're waiting, you can call an animal rescue to see if they can take it. They can care for them and rehabilitate them best :)

Generally, I was always told to leave baby birds where you found them because they are probably learning to fly and just fell out. However, in case you fear it might be in danger (neighborhood cat, etc.), then I would suggest keeping it as an addition to your present flock. I think, if you were to call a bird rescue place, they'd probably honestly not pick it up. That's a tough one to call, though. You might want to call the rescue place and ask, just to be sure.

If it's clear that he will no longer be able to be cared for by it's parents, take it to a bird rescue place. I can only say for the one near me, but they do good work, know how to care well for baby birds, and will be it's best chance.

P.S.You will need to drop it off with them as they likely can not afford to leave to go pick it up. Summer is a busy season and staff may be tight.

since you have birds i'd say keep it. but animal rescue will give the sparrow the ultimate medical needs. not that you wouldn't.but i would say over all allow it to heal, get better. then release it back into the wild. if you found it there. look for a nest where you found the bird and have a bird's nest book handy with you too to see if it belongs to a sparrow.

I once found a baby bluejay and I called a rescue place. They told me to put the baby in a box or basket and hang it where I found the bird. The mother will find it.

I live in Misoouri and we just got hit with a ton of really bad storms and there were baby birds everywhere. We have cats so I had to find somewhere to take them. I couldn't find the nest of this one baby bluejay and there isn't a rescue near me and I didn't have any room for him, so I put him in a robin's nest and she has been taking care of him and feeding him. If you can't find a nest to put him/her in and you have a wildlife rescue to take him/her to than I would do that. If you can't find a nest and don't have a wildlife rescue near by, than I would find out what he needs to survive and keep him/her.

1 if you can't take care of the bird.

2 if you can take care of it and you have what the bird needs.

3 if you want what's best for the bird.

well you should take it to the bird rescue place because if you knew anything about birds if you touch them while they are still babies the mother will smell the human scent on it and leave it to die so defanatly take it to the rescue place

Most bird rescue organizations euthanize sparrows.

If he's imprinted on you, you might want to keep him, as long as you know how to take care of and feed him.

If you dont go to Starling Central, or Starling Talk, they will tell you what to feed it. Just google or yahoo search their name and their website will pop up. I dont have their website on this computer.
