"Does it matter...you obviously only wan to hear what you want to hear. Julia is absolutely correct. Just because you are born with a desire to love men doesn't mean that it's right. We are all born in sin. Sin comes in many different forms and fashions. Some people love to steal, kill etc. Some may like members of the same sex. It's still wrong. Once you realize that you need a savior in your life that knows better than you then you are able to turn from those sins."

Can we help her understand?

Are you kidding? People like that aren't thinking; they're repeating what they've been told. You can't get through.

This excerpt from a transcript interview with John Dean refers to the hard right conservatives, but the same description applies totally to the "Christian" mindset as well:

DEAN: They found—they have found really—maybe a small, 1 percent of the left, who follow authoritarianism, probably the far left. But as far as widespread testing, it is just overwhelmingly our conservative orientation.

Question: There is an extraordinary amount of academic work that you quote in the book. A lot of it is very unsettling. It deals with psychological principles that are frightening and that may have faced other nations at other times, in Germany and Italy in the ‘30s coming to mind in particular.

But what—how does it apply now? And to what degree should it scare us? And to what degree is it something that, that, that, that, that might still be forestalled?

DEAN: Well, to me, it was something of an epiphany to run into this information. First, I‘d never read about it before. I sort of worked my way into it until I found it. It‘s not generally known out there what‘s going on. And I think, from best we can tell, these people, the followers, a few of them, will change their ways when they realize what they‘re doing, not even aware of their behavior.

The leaders, those who were inclined to dominate, are not going to change a second. They‘re going to be what they are.

So by and large, the reason I write about this is, I think we need to understand it, we realize, when you take a certain step and vote a certain way and head in a certain direction, where this can end up. So it‘s sort of a cautionary note. It‘s a warning as to where this can go, because other countries have gone there.

Question: And the idea of leaders and followers going down this path, and perhaps taking a country with them, requires—this whole edifice requires an enemy, communism, al Qaeda, Democrats, me, whoever, for the two minutes hate. I mean, there is—we overuse—I overuse the Orwellian analogies to nauseating proportions. But it really was, in reading what, what, what, what you wrote about, and especially what the academics talked about, there was that, that two minutes hate thing. There has to be an opponent, an enemy, to coalesce around, or the whole thing falls apart. Is that the gist of it?

DEAN: It is one of the things that, believe it or not, still holds conservatism together, because there are many factions and conservatisms, and their dislike or hatred of those they portray as liberal, who will be anybody who basically disagrees with them, is one of the cohesive factors. There are a few others, but that‘s certainly one of the basics.

There‘s no question that the—particularly the followers,. they‘re terribly, they‘re very aggressive in their effort to pursue and help their authority figure out, or their authority beliefs out. They will do whatever needs to be done, in many regards. They will blindly follow. They stay loyal too long. And this is the frightening part of it. >

Hmm... that is really sad. I have a friend who's mother told him that she'd rather he was a murderer than a homosexual. Something about this is completely skewed. Can't people see how the modern times and trends have been affecting them? Do you think 200 years ago any mother would have said that? Homosexuality wasn't the buzzword or buzz topic it is today. Of course since homosexuality has received so much media attention it becomes the #1 sin. Look through history. Homosexuals have existed since the beginning of civilization and throughout all civilizations on this Earth. Their status in society has ranged through being accepted and hated, revered (like the warriors of ancient Greece), and persecuted (in the modern day). Open your minds and your hearts like Jesus would want you to, and stop hurting people by preaching about damnation.

I think that first you need to know that Jesus loves you and although you are sorely misguided it doesn't give you the right to "put me on blast" because I said something that you didn't agree with. There are many people tha says things I don't agree with on here, I don't insult them, instead I pray for them.

Just know that God will protect his people...The Lord says to my Lord: "Psalms 110 "Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet"

Here's the problem, you don't have a problem with me, you have a problem with God. I am not God, but I do read his word and obied by it. You need to take your issues up with God and leave me out of it. I didn't make the rules, he did. He said to turn from sin and wickedness, he said that homosexuality is a abomination, he said that murder is wrong and that killing babies is also murder. He said that cussing is no good and that anything in excess is a sin. All those things are God's words. So please if you have a problem with God take it up with him and allow him to speak to you and show you the truth. God bless!

Just because you are born with low IQ doesn't mean it's right.
Some people love to defame, torment and vilify others etc. whilst hiding behind fraudulent scripture..it's still wrong. Once you take responsibility for your own prejudices you will be able to turn away from those wrongs.

let's call a sin a sin! it is unnatural - merely examine out how the male and woman bodies are made and that would properly be info. we are getting a harmfully permissive society, and folk are being damage by residing in volatile approaches below the banner of tolernace. there is definitely excellent and incorrect, previous what our society has grown to settle for. There are issues that are incorrect - merely as you said, like pedophilia. yet different wrongs inclusive of homsexuality, abortion, residing jointly with out being married have slowly grown into American society because we are getting desensitized over the years into questioning it is nice. there is"no longer something new below the daylight", it surpassed off in historic Greece and Rome - and is guy's insurrection hostile to God. No, the habit isn't healthful. it is volatile and hostile to how we are created. we like the sinner and hate the sin, each human being benefits unconditional love.

I think it's time there was a huge stand taken against the anti-gay bigots. We are all entitled to our sexuality. It's who we are and can't be changed. I am straight and have had abuse for taking the side of gays against bigots. Where do these self righteous idiots get their ideas from ? Are they closet Nazi's ?

Well...since the "gays" (thanks Kathy Griffin) were spawned from your so-called God...then he accepts them and like that they color-coordinate the world...personally, being a straight man...I could care less what another man does in his free time...I mind my own business and let them live freely...I think gay marriage should be legal everywhere...They are going to be together regardless of what some bible thumper says anyway...

I truly believe that religious people that disagree with the gay marriage thing are under-cover gays themselves mad at the world because they don't have the balls to come out!!!

I agree with trulyblssd. Believing that someone's actions are morally wrong (and having the courage to say it out loud) is not bigoted!

Parrot! She assumes theoriginal sin story to be true. She says homosexuality is wrong, yet she does not know why. Some lying, deceitful pastor told her that.
