She is not going to get HIV from her from getting beat up and scratched. The nurse would of course used new needles on her. They dispose of needles after each patient. Each patient gets a brand new needle never before opened. I use to draw blood and I know this for sure, worked in Dr's offices, hospitals and clinics. Did this for over 13 years so I know what I am talking about. How naive are you. Anyway it could take as long as 10 years or more to show up.

it can take up to 6 months before showing in a test, but why is she not sure if the nurse used clean needles or not? nurses always use clean needles as far as I know (I'm a registered nurse in the Netherlands)

It would take a long time.
Have her wait 6 weeks from the time of possible exposure, then go and have a test done.
I think it's 6 weeks before it will show on a test.

The timeline varies quite a bit from person to person. It can be YEARS before a person starts to have any symptoms.

If your friend is concerned that she may have HIV, she should get tested.

It really takes a lady longer to find out than it would take a man to. So its just best for her to just go to the doctor.
