The most traditional English dish is the Roast dinner and this dates back hundreds of years. Henry the eighth for example ate Roast pheasant and other animals with a variety of vegetables and other things like fruit etc when he use to hold banquets and just when he ate. You will also find that the tradition has held as a vast amount of the population have a roast every Sunday. The pubs as well are trying to stick to tradition by having Roast dinners. The best places are at a carvery. The more traditional the better or you could cheat and buy ready mad e product like Aunt Bessie's.

It depends if you are talking about English as being Americans or English meaning those from the United Kingdom. It would help if you clarify.

Americans eat a smorgasbord of things because of the many different cultures we have inside our country. English (from England) enjoy things like Kidney Pie, Yorkshire Pudding, Tea and Crumpets, etc.

The Brits have AWESOME potato chips (crisps). Because their cuisine is so wretched... Pork Pies, Bangers and Mash, Beans (nasty, runny Pork and Beans) with tomatoes, they had to supplement their diets with Cadbury Bars and Potato Crisps that come in every flavor (flavour) under the sun. Steak, Curry, Prawn, Pizza, and on and on. Luckily you can get Kebabs (gyros) and Curry on just about every corner. Stay away from the boiled hamburgers, regardless of how many pints you've had.

I think the all American dish (at least that is what people call it) is any kind of meat and potatoes, I know we did not actually start this but it just seems American, and of course the apple pie to.
