I do not know where you got your information but it is not true. When Adama and Eve sinned against God, satan became the ruler of this world. Adam was given that position or rulership but lost it when he sinned against God (the Lord Jesus Christ). The penalty for sin is damnation or the lake of fire (hell), which has not been created as of yet. Because all of Adam and Eve's children are infected with sin, they all are under damnation that is sentenced to go to hell. However, the Lord in His great mercy and lovingkindness determined to have some of these rebels for Himself, to be His children. Now God is under His own law (Psalm 139:2) and therefore cannot let anyone into His kingdom who has sin (Remember: the soul that sinneth, it shall die; the wages of sin is death.) So God sent the second person of the Godhead (Jesus Christ), to be born as a human being, and to be the sin bearer for all those whom God determined to save (redeem). Christ lived a perfect life (He was the sinless lamb of God) but took the sins of all those whom He came to save upon Himself. The cross was not the suffering that paid for those sins. The cross just showed that Christ became a curse for those who had broken God's law. When Jesus was in the garden, He was already throwing Himself to the ground with loud cries and sweating dops of blood. He, at that time, was enduring the fierce wrath of God for those He came to save. Finally on the cross before He physically died, He said, "It is finished." The sins debt was paid for the elect.
