it depends on how big the bird is. If it's an ostrich, use a large can of 'Deep Savannah Off'. It's like bug repellent, but for those annoying African creatures that chase after you. Hey, when you're in Africa, you're going to need all the bug spray you need to keep those car sized scorpions away!
If it's a humming bird, use a horse fly that you've trained to retrieve. Or use a goose as a bat. The down side to that is that the screaming and honking while you try to catch it would wake the neighbors ^.^ . Definitely NOT a midnight activity.

I would never want to kill any birds at all, with a stone or not.

one bird in the left hand, one bird in the right hand and then you jump of the highest building in your town and you will actually end up killing three birds in one shot...(provided of course of actually succeed in keeping the bird under you when you land to absorb the shock!!)
on a more serious note... it is an idiom, which means you were able to acomplish two completly different things with the effort of only one!

well chucky, the easiest way that I have found is to get a really big cannon, then put a fat boulder in it and luanch it into a tree, usually it kills more than two birds though

well it would be possible if one bird was hit with stone then conked heads with the other only i don't recommend trying this cuz that would be mean
