Does anyone have any ideas? We already do the dinner after church and provide a gift from the church. I would like to do something different, something fun, but uplifting also.

Do you have people you could trust to do a few testimonials about him/her?
We put out a basket at the back of the church for a month and let people drop in notes to him.
They LOVE dinner certificates ( like everyone)

One thing that would be different, would require quite a bit of footwork on your part and the part of others. See if you can find some quartets and duets and various singers in your area and present him with a Christian music appreciation day placing his seats right up by the stage. Fill the evening with different types of Christian Music. You might can find out from his wife the kind of music he likes and get him a video or DVD of his favorite group or groups. Another possibility is to get him some of Carmen's DVDs or Video's which are great and regenerating to anyone. Another possibility is to get a spiral bound notebook and have each member that wants to write a special little message about how the pastor has uplifted their family or their life and then present the love present to the pastor where he can at times that he has trials open up the love notes to him from his flock and gain comfort in knowing the ways that God has used him in the church's life. Last if you have a good multimedia person and computer person get the two together and do a video diary or love note book whereby you have various interviews with church members where they voice what they might would write down in the book and present all to him on his special night. That's my idea about how you might make your pastor's special night a very special remembrance for him to savor through the year.

Don't have one. That will only encourage him in his behaviour. We wouldn't want that.

If you insist on doing something for him, take him out and get the church together to do community service. Jesus taught service. Show him you learned something from going to church. That should be rewarding.

You could also take up an offering in his honour and donate it to a local soup kitchen to help the poor and needy. You shouldn't buy him anything, that doesn't really show appreciation.

How about sending the pastor and his wife on a weekend retreat, possibly at church camp.

Get him a gift certificate to a book store. Everyone loves to read, especially pastors. Thats what we gave our pastor and he loved it.

Make an appreciation video... don't forget his wife either if he has one. She's not a pastor but I'm sure she does a lot to help.
