What is the gestation period for a dog.

Allright im not sure when exactly she got pregnant so what do i need to watch for. I have never owned a female dog before.

Oh and far as getting her spayed to the smartass response she was a stray that came up to my door and I kept her for a week waiting for an owner to claim her and in the process one of my males got ahold of her. She wasn't my dog to make that choice for. And I plan on getting her spayed after she delivers these pups or unless an owner comes foward.

Oy... What are her signs now? Do you know *approximately* the breeding date? Or at least when she was in heat?
If you choose, you can have the puppies aborted, and have her spayed. Many dangerous complications can arise in a pregnant or whelping dog. I have a list for you to look at that may help. Yes, it's from the AKC, but it is for dog breeders of all breeds, and people wanting to learn about dog breeding... It gives a step-by-step of breeding and pregnancy. I'll go get that...

The gestation period for a bit*h (sorry...proper term...) is nine weeks. It doesn't matter what breed. When her time comes, watch for her becoming really antsy and nervous. She also will start to secrete a waxy substance from her mammary glands.
