Take a large glob of neosporin or Vaseline (hard in the hair though) and put it on the tick, they eventually start to suffocate and loose their hold a little and then you pull them out with tweezers and it is much easier to get the whole tick. Pull the head off with the tweezers, squish it in Kleenex and flush it down the toilet. Clean the site really good!

Oh ticks and nits are two different things too. Nits are lice eggs just to clarify for those confused.

Take a pair of tweezers, grasp the tick by the head and steadily pull it straight out.

Don't try to burn it, especially if it still attached to the kid's head. The tick may just regurgitate it stomach contents into your child and you don't want that. If it has lyme disease, you increase the chance of transmission.

It's not recommended you pop the thing, but it will kill them. You can pop 'em with the tweezer or sqwish them between 2 hard places...LOL! Sounds disgusting, and it is, but it works!

Take your child to the Dr and let them know what happened. He/She should examine the area and make sure the head is out to avoid infection and may recommend shots for lymes.

Make sure you check your home, your yard and anywhere the child has been. Find out where it came from so you may treat the area. Tick infestations are horrible and very hard to get rid of.

If you have a pet that has them, invest in some drops from the vet's office. I think it's Frontline that takes care of both fleas and ticks.

Good luck!

Pull it out by it's head with tweezers. Make sure that you get it all or it will get infected. There are plenty of ways to kill a tick, but ticks can reproduce without a mate and will reproduce almost immediately upon dying. They only way to stop this from happening is to burn it. It will make a little popping sound.

I just got an email on ticks. It said to soak a cottonball in liquid hand soap then place the cottonball on the tick. Hold it there a few minutes and the tick comes off embedding itself in the cottonball. I don't know if this works and hope I never have to. I know you have to get the head out and the above mentioned ways are best.

i agree with mandi195 . Please do not just pull it out the head could get stuck. light the match blow it out and put the stick to the tick then i suggest tissue to grab it and keep it in a plastic bag just in case they need to test it and ask you doctor if you need to have your child tested just to make sure the tick doesn't have lime disease.. if they don't need it just flush it. CHeck for little black rock like things by it too if it's the big gray kind because those are the females and it could be eggs.

We live in a big tic area. We soak a cotton ball with rubbing alcohol and the tick comes to the surface. Just yank it out straight with the tweezers. I also squeeze them to death and throw them outside or down the toilet. My neighbor suffocates them in scotch tape. Just fold it over. I can never find the tape of course. lol.

Your best bet is to take the child to emergency, and let the doctors deal with it. They've actually got things that will make the tick want to get off the skin. If you can't get to emerg, you might try nail polish remover. I heard that it sometimes works, and won't hurt the child's skin.

My parents used to remove them with tweezers (you have to make sure you get the entire tick, not just it's body) when they found them in my hair. To kill them, I've heard that you can burn them with a match or lighter but I've found that you can kill them just my stepping on them really well.

TRY A HOT MATCH TO IT, THIS WILL CAUSE IT TO BACK OUT AND THEN YOU CAN BE SURE THE WHOLE THING CAME OUT.
ANOTHER OPTION IS VASOLINE... COVER THE ENTIRE TICK WITH IT, AND IT WILL HAVE TO BACK OUT IN ORDER TO GET OXYGEN.
EITHER ONE WILL WORK. GOOD LUCK!
