Hobos is probably the most accurate term for them, hobos move around the country picking up odd jobs and such. The first Hobos appeared during the dirty thirties (I think) and I have no idea if they still exist.
Gypsies travel place to place to try make money. In Germany the Gypsies can stay for 10 days in any one place and then must move on. They are also closely watched by the police, because of their reputation of being thieves and confidence people, and if the police suspect something is going on they will have to move on immediately. This happened last time when they were here, they were told to leave after two days because the didn't clean up after their dogs and their children were lot letting the children that live here use the playground.
Can't tell you about travellers, I thought travellers were just ordinary people who go on vacation, the lake, etc.

There are gypsies & Irish travelers in the US.
I remember observing a celebration of a gypsy family years ago when I passed through Texas. I was in a park doing the picnic thing when a rather large group, maybe 100,showed up. Interesting.

We also have people here who identify themselves as travelers. There are two groups that i am aware of, one in South Carolina and a related group in Ohio. They tend to live in rather self contained communities and do not travel in caravans.

I think the closest thing we have to gypsies in the united states would have to be Carnies (Carnival Workers). They travel from place to place in caravans and live much the same lifestyle.
