Any amount of time is too long. It may be hard for you (it is for me), but it's the best way to go. You won't ruin any good friendships/relationships that way. Love people, hate their actions.

Grudges are a big waste of energy; while you are giving all this energy to the person the grudge is against, that person is probably not giving you a second thought. So for you own good, forgive and move on.

I think that it is reasonable to hold a grudge as long as you want. Depending on the situation (as all situations are different) that will help you determine how long to hold onto your grudge. Just remember that it is always better to try and forgive. It takes more muscles to frown then to smile.

Depending on what the grudge is about. Rate it on a scale from 1-10. 1-1day, 10 Forever.
an example of how long to hold a grudge and for how long.
1-called you a moderate bad name.(1 day)
2-called you a bad name out of anger. (1 week)
3-forgot your B-day or something. (1 month)
4-broke something of yours. (3 months or until reimbursed)
5-accused you of something you didn't do. (6 months)
6-Physically hurt you[1 year or forever (depending on the damage)]
7-Emotionally hurt you (5 years)
8-Hurt a friend or family member(7 1/2 years)
9-Slept with your significant other (15 years or death)
10-killed your family member/friend/significant other/pet.(Torture then slow and painful death, be creative.)

Ah, jealousy and grudges. Both are bad. One as bad as the other. The one you are holding the grudge against is not feeling a thing, but it will devour you if you let it. It is worse than a cancer eating at you from the inside. The same goes for jealousy.
The Bible tells us we are to forgive and forget.

Its not good to hold a grudge...what is it gonna do? It can't change anything because it already happened. But it depends on the individual and how he/she feels. I do not hold grudges...(my family gets REALLY PISSED off at my failure to hold grudges.) If the person you are angry at wants to talk and you do to try and talk about what happened and got you pissed off at them and go from there

It's not so much as question or reason as it is a question of how long you want to feel terrible from carrying one around. A wise person once told me that not forgiving someone is like drinking poision and expecting your enemy to die. The word "holding" implies something important here. You're the one holding it and you're the only one really suffering as a result. Forgiving someone does a lot more for you than for them.

when you hold a grudge it hurts you more than anything. you become hard and calloused and stressed out. that person you are mad at probably forgot all about the issue, and you're still thinking about it. they now have the power over you. just give it up, you'll have less stress on you.

Till you die! Really! The best is when you wish them all the evil that could happen to them and when something bad does happen to them, they will remember YOU! Oh oh oh ... wait... Don't forget to stick needles in their pictures!!! Everyone says that holding grudges just a waste of energy (and a sin). But hey, not all of us are Gandhi, are we?!!

It's not good for us to do it at all, but certainly after somebody apologizes and speaks openly about why the grudge originated. .then we have no excuse and we should put the grudge to rest.
