There is a very interesting article on this subject "Dabbling in the Occult
—What's the Harm"and "Is There Anything Wrong
with Witchcraft?"

You might be interested in reading these articles before you make up your mind...

It really depends on what you believe. Being interested in a religion isn't enough. Do you feel the passion and the drive? Wicca isn't just a practice, its a way of life. Its not just spells and incantations, its a belief that someone loves and cares for you. Also remember that traditionally a Wiccan is supposed to have a year and a day of training before she can rightfully call herself a wiccan by being initiated. That means every day, studying, memorizing. Also you are not allowed to do spells until your are initiated (traditionally).

Also there was a comment that Wicca is not an old Religion- You are correct in your own way, the first known Wiccan religion was great in the 1890's by a man who was researching older religions. It is not that Wicca is a completely fabricated new religion, its a compilation of older religions, some dating back to before christ (many wiccans worship Isis, for example). So please people who are here to insult with your snide remarks- do some research first.

Know me myself, I am a Christian Wiccan-initiate. I am not to be initiated to Samhain, and I follow both religions. I view God as a diamond, and all the other dieties are different aspects of him. Ie: Aphrodites is the female aspect of God's love.

I can say that once I full-heartedly started practicing Wicca, while keeping my Christian beliefs, I felt more at ease with myself, happier, and more understanding of the world around me. It was the best thing I ever did. But that me. For you, you have to do whats in your heart. Think of being a wiccan- do you feel squimish, uncertain, guilty- then turn away. But if it makes you feel good, enlightened, happy- then go for it!

Yes, but make sure you know why you want to be wiccan, its not something you should go into lightly. A good resource is www.witchvox.com and www.goddesswithin.us/ Contrary to popular (and usually Christian, though not always) belief, there is nothing evil or dangerous about wicca, or any other pagan religion. There is no devil in wicca- the devil is a part of Christanity. You can get sucked into a cult as with any religion if youre not careful, but use good judgement and you should be fine! Get your hands on anything you can read, and talk to people, most are more than happy to give you some advice or answer questions. Hope this helps!

Personally, finding out about Wicca was like coming home. I had never realized before that there were other people who believed the same things I did, and that it had a name. I was 19 when life led me to Wicca; that was 11 years ago now, and I've never looked back. I looked into Christianity, Buddhism, Hinduism, and Judaism before coming across Wicca so I was certain that it was the right path for me to follow.

My advice to you is this: you're at a very curious age right now, so take your time and research all your options. Don't just look into Wicca, read up on various other religions too. It's a difficult choice to make in life, so take your time and be thorough. If you do decide to practice Wicca, then you need to decide on which tradition you'll follow. Again, take your time. There is alot to choose from: Gardnerian, Alexandrian, Celtic, Faery, Pict, Asatru, Dianic, Ecclectic, etc etc etc.

There are a lot of great books out there to choose from on Wicca. My favourite book for beginners is The Complete Idiot's Guide to Wicca and Witchcraft. The best authors to look for are Scott Cunningham and Raymond Buckland, in my opinion.

Good luck in your search, and blessed be.

I recommend a book called Teen Wicca. I also recommend a site called The Witches Voice www.witchvox.com.

Wicca, and all the other pagan religions, is about the earth. Respecting the Earth as our mother, as our creator, and being mindful of the Earth. We take responsibility for our own actions, we don't blame them on an outside source. We don't believe in a devil or in demons. The closest analogy is the Native American spiritualities.

Wicca is a religion, it is not just cuteness and candles. It is the modern name for witchcraft. It has nothing to do with satanism. Satan is part of the Abrahamic pantheons, not the pagan pantheons. Pantheon is a group of gods. If you cannot view the world and life from the standpoint of multiple gods, then you're looking in the wrong place for your faith. Find the faith that works best for you and makes your heart happy. Read about all different kinds of religions before choosing one. www.sacredtexts.org, www.beliefnet.com

Wicca is not a form of Satanism, people. Wiccans do not even believe in Satan. Wicca is an Earth based religion, older than Christianity. Wiccans have a deep reverence for nature and all the deities who created nature and life. They try to live life with a positive outlook because they believe in the three-fold rule, which is the belief that anything that you do, good or bad, comes back on you three-fold. (Hence, if you do good, you receive good, bad, you receive bad). I will give you probably the best website to go to research it. You have to find the right religion for yourself. For some people, Wicca is the way to go, but it's not for others, so you just have to decide for yourself.

You are only 14 and very impressionable. Wicca is the worship of nature . But it has gotten bad press and some rotten apples have turned it into something bad. Most people that have been in either get out or out grow it. Go to the library and study up on it. Made sure you have an understanding of it before you actually participate.

It's far better than christianity. Wicca is not based on judgement or guilt.
So if you must follow some sort of religion, Wicca is the way to go.
Find a decent group or practice as a solo.
good luck.

Oh and don't worry about the idiots who will threaten you with hell or damnation. Would you join a group that uses threats to get you to join or stay? I did'nt think so.
Same goes for those who say it's evil. They are utterly ignorant. Have pity on them, but certainly do NOT follow thier advice.

Wicca is a fascinating religion. There are as many kinds of Wicca as there are Christianity, as far as I know. It's a completely harmless, non-Satanic religion, no matter what others may tell you. Being a Wiccan does not make you a goth. I have several Wiccan friends and they are very happy and say that they love it. So, at the very least, look into it!

I know quite a few folks who find Wicca to be a very rewarding path. Research it yourself and make your own decision. A good starter book is "Wicca for the solitary practitioner" by Scott Cunningham. A good forum is http://www.ecauldron.net/mb/
Best of luck and don't worry about all of the devil crap people are spouting on here. They have no idea what they are talking about. One of the best ways to find out about a religion is through unbiased sources like dictionaries and encyclopedias and from those who have actually practiced the religion long term.

For your information, Red Wine Guy, Wiccans aren't lesbian man haters. There are men that practice Wicca too. Sheesh, some people are idiots!

Anyways, back to the question. First, you need to ask yourself what you believe in before you decide on a religion. You need explore all religions to see if they fit your belief pattern. Nothing is worse than a person who changes their beliefs just to fit in. Be yourself. Now, assuming you have explored other religions, and agree with what Wicca believes in, then yes, by all means, it would be wonderful for you to practice it. We aren't evil, we aren't Satanists, but I will say we are misunderstood, and we are persecuted. If you can handle that, then don't let what other people say to you bother you. We will always be persecuted.

Now, if I may share with you some of the basic beliefs in Wicca, and what they mean. And these are in random order.

1. Reincarnation-means we will come back and live on this earth again until we reach spiritual perfection.
2. Personal responsibility-means we are responsible for our actions, and whatever we do, and whatever we send out in the universe comes back to us, three times as strong, and that is called the Three-Fold Law.
3. The God and Goddess. We believe in both a God and a Goddess. We believe this because all things in nature and life have a masculine energy and a feminine energy. With out one the other can't survive. But the God and Goddess are caretakers of us for the Creator, who created them.
4. We also believe that we can do whaever we want in life as long as we don't harm any living thing. It is the Wiccan Rede, and it says "And harm none, do what ye will"

There are more, but this enough for now. If you have anymore questions you'd like to ask me, you can email me. There's a link in my profile to do that. Merry Meet and Blessed Be!
