Sorry, this one has always been on the list since the "shoe bomber."
Lighters lead the list of the TSA's most confiscated items. Buy a lighter or matches when you arrive.

absolutely not=they prohibited them at the beginning of this year and TSA will take it from you. But speaking of lighter, a lighter carry one would be welcomed with much more enthusiasm!

Yes, they are dropping that restriction. I am not sure when it will take effect but soon if not already.
I carried my Bic the last time I flew and the metal detectors didn't pick it up... I had matches just in case though.

No you cannot. They will confiscate it.
If memory serves they confiscate 8000 lighters a day in US airports.
