It's not for your salary. That's a very economical car as far as your salary is concerned. Me thinks you came here to brag a bit, no?

I had the same dilemma. Even though with the amount you make, you can certainly afford it, it is tough to spend that kind of money on a car. It all depends on whether or not it will make you happy. Last year I was looking at a Toyota Camry and an Infiniti M45. The Camry would "Do the Job" and it was nicely loaded. But I opted for the M45 and have never been happier.

That doesn't sound like an unreasonable price range for your income level. But what is your debt to income ratio?
If you have a mortgage, personal loans, credit cards, and student loans you may want to consider a bit less than that. Also, consider the cost of auto insurance on a vehicle more expensive than the one you have now.

I think 40g is just enough to buy you a desscent luxury car. But with your salary You can buy your self a descent Porsche. Lexus are for old people, get your self a nice piece of german engineering. It will surely out perform any other car depending on its class.

Yes, it is too much. Remember, one idiot driver can total your car in an instant -- and losing 40K all at once would be a hit, so to speak.
Buy a used Toyota Corolla for under $10K -- a few years old, but still getting good mileage and still in good condition.

spend what you think that you can honestly afford... it's your money, so who cares? there are many wonderful vehicles available in the 35-40K price range.
i'd suggest a MB c-class, but that's just me!

That's crazy! You're blowing your $ on something that's just going to depreciate right after you walk out of the dealers. Unless it's your desire to impress other people, I wouldn't do it!
