If you're asking about a nationwide violation, there's probably too many to count. EPA contamination standards are violated on a daily basis around this great nation.

In addition to narrowing down the geographic region, you may also want to specify which contaminants. I imagine that if you include every air, water and soil sample taken in New Jersey, and compare to every contaminant found above federal standards - from gasoline and motor oil to PCBs, organophosphates, and lead levels, you'd be talking about hundreds, if not thousands of recorded violations.

Problem is the penalties are less costly than proper behavior! If it will cost you $200,000 to properly dispose of waste and avoid a $10,000 fine, guess what!
