I have had three neo mastiff dogs. Now I have two, one is old and has cancer. I love these dogs with all my heart. However, the first one I got after a death in the family, the second one I got from a backyard breeder, and she was sick, the third I got from a rescue. These dogs have major health problems, whether they come from a good breeder or a rescue. They have eye, heart, thyroid, hip, elbow, knee and skin problems. They are huge, goofy, lovable, laid back and my best friends. But the lifespan of these dogs, if healthy, is only 7 yrs., at best. That is not long enough, and they have gone thru several depths of hell in the past with issues. I wouldn't get another one, because they are so easy to love, but it hurts too much when they are sick, or you lose them to heaven.

Yes, but mine may not be the same as yours. What I hate, you may love! My mistake was a chihuahua. I needed a dog to get along with other animals, and one that didn't eat me out of house and home, and that will fit in my small house. What I got was a dog that couldn't hold it's bladder more than an hour, wouldn't let my boyfriend touch me, and needed to be on my lap at all times. I loved her and trained her lots of tricks but after a few months my boyfriend had enough and I let my grandma keep her. It was the best for both of them. I think my biggest mistake was not getting a dog that both of us enjoyed. It nearly broke us up!

Jack Russells. My college roommate had one and, while the dog was a great friend and companion, you always had to keep your eyes on him. He was well trained and obedient, but could get into serious trouble when he was alone.

boston terrior. he was actually a foster dog, that no one would take and died of old age in my care. he was a sweetie, but totally a snooty, sickly dog, and too lil for my likings. he was intelligent, but afraid of everything and lost control of his bladder too easily... and it is common in the breed.

I would never have an Akita again. Mine was too high strung. Obedience classes couldn't even help her. She was a spaz.
