Yes, She is young and you just got her. She not used to you yet but the more you play with her and lover her the more calm she will become and in a cupple of weeks you should see a change in her mood.

She's been abused, probably beaten. You can test this, simply hold out your hand and bring it down quickly twards her head, a petting motion, is very similar to a striking motion. If she winces, she's been hit, and more than once. You will need to work with her slowly, to gain her trust. You also need to build her self esteme - I know that sounds odd for a dog, but it is very important. Praise her when she does the littlest thing right, and you will find that you won't have to scold her too harshly when she does something wrong, as she will already know she's messed up, and be in fear of what is to come. So, when does wrong, just give her a look or shake your head, do not yell or hit, that would be just like the situation before. And socialize her, take her for walks and help her see that you are not going to allow anyone to harm her. She probably doesn't walk with her head up, but looks down, another sign of an abused dog, and her tail is probably tucked most the time, instead of out or up. That is a sure sign of fear and insecurity.

I fostered a dog that did just what you describe, and after 8 weeks, he was a different animal. They come out of their shell in stages, so it takes time to undo the abuse that someone else has done. Give her lots of love, and lots of time, and she will come around. She will love you dearly if you are patient with her and work with her, you will have a loyal companion for life

It's not really normal for a dog you've had a while, but she's probably just excited about new people. Start training her and get her into a routine and she should settle down. Work on sit first, so you can ask her to sit when she meets people. Hopefully you mean that she acts all goofy and playful and jumpy. If she's growling at you you've got a whole different situation...

Labs mature very slowly, They are mentally Puppies until they are 7 or 8, then they get old over night.
It appears she is afraid you are going to leave and not return. My 12 year old lab still follows my ex wife from room to room, and If I am over she follows me like that too. you have to train her not to jump, everytime she jumps step back and tell her no. Do not pet her when she jumps. My ex-wife's used to jump and that's how I taught her not to. Now since she is the ex-wife's I tap my chest to teach her to jump.:)

Sounds like the poor baby's been abused. Give her time to calm down and get used to you. Once she's come to trust you, she'll settle down. In the meantime, try not to make sudden movements or raise your voice - be as gentle and kind as you can without losing your ability to discipline her.

I agree, did you get her form a shelter? Do you know who owned her previously? She's prbly just scared of you right now. I'd say move slowly and when you talk to her, try to use a medium slow voice, soothing. Just be nice and she should warm up.

maybe the previous people were mean so she is scared, give her lots of love, speak in a calm, soothing voice, and she shoulde begin to trust you more over the next month or so.

Well it depends where you got her from she could've been abused earlier in life or she could just be skittish and not used to you.
