Just speaking from my High School Bio class it's because it acts as a population control. This can be seen in nature all around. Animals that are introduced into new environments have no natural predators and thus their populations grow exponentially at a much higher rate than is normal. The same would be true of cats and dogs. Ticks serve the purpose of spreading disease which acts as a natural inhibitor on their populations. This even happens with humans. The human population previously remained low due to diseases and food shortages. People had to reproduce at a high rate to overcome the high death rate. When the Industrial revolution arrived and medicine became more advanced, the death rate decreased while the birth rate stayed high, causing a massive population boom. In the U.S. and Europe the birth rate has now decreased due to the cultural changes that no longer require large families. Until Asia and Africa also have this cultural shift in birth rate the same rules still apply.

Yeah, like ticks have a purpose! There is no purpose I can think of for ticks or fleas, except having to put that nasty stripe down my dogs and cats backs, which by the way, is icky, and they hate it. I understand mosquitoes, bats eat them, but does anything even eat ticks or fleas? Regardless, they're useless ickys.

That's only assuming "god" exists
But thinking that way, everything has its goods and bads
Think of it, Dogs and cats have fleas, worms, ticks but in return there is a way to cure it and they have families which care for them

I asked the Lord & the Lord answered me, "I love cats and dogs." "There is a reason for the fleas. I won't explain that to you right now."
