Yes. Purity is not a concern. Most oil bottles are black. This is because it was made from all colors of recycled plastic.

Eating a motor oil bottle is not a smart thing to do, regardless as to whether it's toxic or not. Your stomach will have a really hard time digesting it and the residual oil in the bottle will make you really sick. Try a hot dog instead...

Petroleum-based oils just plain don't make good food. Similarly, plastic bottles aren't much of a diet supplement, either.

"Oil" as a general term describes various properties of a liquid - "oil" comes from such things as crushed seeds, plant fibres, treated coal, and of course holes in the ground. "Oil" you can put in your mouth and be glad you did is a very tiny sub-set of "oil" in general.

Before petroleum products entered wide use in the latter 1800's, machinery used rendered "oil" from animals - called "tallow" - from the sap of certain trees, and from coal, for lubrication. It made the old steam engines pretty doggoned smelly, you bet. That kind of oil does not have the physical properties to make the bottle in which your motor oil is delivered, either.

So your real question - what makes one oil different from another, and is any of it nutritious - is answered this way; Petroleum products and plastic will only make you so sick you leave asphalt in your wake. Vegetable oil products might make you slick, but they generally won't make you sick.

OK?
