I mean no disrespect to anyone but I was wondering if I'm off track here or maybe it's just me.

I noticed that most images I have seen of the wiccian religion show's cartoon images of very beauitful woman..very young and "gifted" if you will in a phycial way...very attractive to say the least.
However near my home a very large University at a recent Wiccan get together of some sort, (I don't have a clue) but these girls were far from attractive, most were very much over weight and not very pretty..(TO ME) and my friends. I was a little shocked because of the cartoon images..if you yahoo or google wiccan and click on images..you'll see what I mean.

Yours thoughts

What the hell are you babbling on about? What does it matter if some representatives of a religion are over weight or far from attractive? Are you a mormon or something?

Interesting question.

I think what you're onto is a definiton of beauty. Of course you're going to see wiccan priestesses and female initiates who look like blond bombshells, or the latest Marilyn Monroe knockoffs. This has to do with common misconceptions of the faith in general and unrealistic ideals of beauty.

In real Wiccan circles, you are likely to see women who adhere to a more "Reubenesque" ideal, whether intentionally or not, and I think this touches on the beauty issue as in many respects, these women are not only considered drop-dead-gorgeous--to someone, at least--but far closer to the natural human ideal than Calvin Klein and others have have presented recently.

Most Wiccan gifts are internal however, and so a woman whose natrual assets would burst a wonderbra are essentially irrelevant. And since Wicca is a recognized (if disliked) religion in Middle America, and abroad, you WILL see images of wicca that bear as much reality as the Virgin Mary (of Semitic origin) looking distinctly French of English, or of Moses looking like Charelton Heston, and some unnamed Pharoah looking like Yul Brenner. If you're asking why Wiccan women are portrayed as cartoonish fem-bots, when in reality they're regular people just like the rest of us, then you're also asking why our culture is so obsessed with idealized images that have no bearing on the inherent humanity that they're trying to present. Wicca is an inherently Human expression of faith, devotion, responsibility and dignity...therefore the question to ask is WHY it has to be glamorized? And as for me, well...a Reubenesque woman can be just as attractive as an anorexic stick insect with silicone implants and a dye job. It's all about what the woman projects from inside, rather than the glamor-mask others have imposed to her outside.

And Jesus is depicted as an attractive man with long hair and a beard, but most Christian men in these days will have short hair and be clean-shaven.

The images in question are (generally) depictions of the Goddess in her Maiden phase, when she is a young and beautiful woman, nubile and ready to find a mate. This has nothing to do with the physical appearance of those who worship her.

Since when have most images reflected real life?

Do you expect most of the high school students you know to look like the teenagers in Seventeen magazine, too? Or most women to look like the women in Cosmo and Marie Claire?

Besides, many Wiccan images are of Goddesses, which ain't us!

Just as with everything in life, Wiccans comes in all shapes and sizes. Everybody is beautiful. Just because you may find overwieght women unattractive, doesn't mean that they are. You are rude for even thinking this, weren't you taught that everybody is special and beautiful?

like any organization, they put their best foot (or in this case other body part) forward. Also, it dismisses the image of the green skined old hag with the wart on her nose and sexuality is very big in the Wiccan faith

Remember the web is trying to sell something so shows you what you want to see... I've met plenty of wiccans who were beautiful and plenty who weren't, just like everywhere...

Wiccan religion celebrates the feminine side of life, therefore we celebrate the beautiful side of womanhood.
