I am located in Lagos Nigeria and interseted in getting into catfish farming. I have over an acre of land that is adjacent to a river and am looking to start or partner with like minded individuals who are already involved or looking to start in catfish farming.

Why is (seemingly) everyone in in Nigeria looking for someone to send them money? "I'm the long-lost cousin of Mubuto Seki-Seko. . . " "I have US$42 million in a bank account but need you to help me get it out." "I want you to help me start a catfish farm." Etc.

Oh, yeah. Because Nigeria has notoriously poor enforcement of its own criminal code, (specifically "Section 419") and few other opportunities to earn money so internet scams have become rampant there.

If you really want to start farming catfish, take a male and a female catfish, feed them. . . .

Well, you are in for a lot of hard work. You will first need to decide how many fish you want to harvest per year and then build your stock ponds accordingly. You will need at least 3 ponds 6 to 8 feet deep with stand pipes to drain them come harvest time. The other 2 tanks are to divide sized fish up in and are built the same way. When you go to harvest you will have to drain the pond back into the river or a spare pond with a tractor driven pump which I found to be the best way. Drain the pond down until you can seine it and catch the fish out and have lots of help to harvest because you are going to need it and lots of ice to pack the fish in or cans and salt which is an entirely different way. I would imagine you could sell them locally and have people come out on harvest day and sell them by the pound uncleaned also as long as the word got out otherwise you have drained your pond for nothing. You might need netting to keep out carnivorous birds too and if you have 4 legged Mobil suitcases ( crocks or gators) then that is another concern. It isn't easy but you can make a living and feed your family doing it. One more thing. Does your river flood? If it does you will have a serious problem trying to keep fish.
I have several ponds myself and also raise carp and Koi.

The best way to set out is equipping yourself theoretically and practically. Start small and learn from your errors. Learn to spawn yourself or get a reliable source of good seed. Understand the basics of good water management and have a sound knowledge of feed and feed formulation. Here is why some fish farmers fail:

Why do you want to frame a catfish? I think eating them makes more sense.
