Hansen's disease is most commonly known as Leprosy is caused by the bacteria Mycobacterium leprae..an acid fast bacilli same family with Mycobacterium tuberculosis causative agent of TB. Well..it is contagious. Person with low immune system can be affected easily as soon as he touches anything contaminated with the bacteria. This can be treated but takes a some time and high doses of antibiotics.Hope this helps.
