There is a chance for infection in any open wound. I would adivse you wash the wound thoroughly with hot water and antimicrobial soap, dress it with a triple antibiotic ointment (like neosporin) and then put a bandage on it. It if seems to have become swollen, red and painful after three or more days, see the doctor - those will be the signs of an infection.

Any cut can get infected, but I've been cutting myself with an exacto knife and recently a razor blade for like two and a half years and have yet to have a cut get infected. Just don't cut too deep and clean the cut after and put a first aid antibiotic and bandage on it and it'll probably be fine.

Well maybe depends on what you were cutting with it before you cut yourself...still would be good to put some type of medicine or just keep a close eye on the cut to make sure it does not get infected..

Any wound that breaks the skin has the possibility of becoming infected. If you are so scared, then put down the knife, call your doctor, and get a referral to a psychiatrist. You obviously are in serious need of help. (weird, I once knew a girl named Katie that cut herself like you do. She taught me how to Hot Air Balloon laugh) For your sake and that of your family, get help.

Anytime there's an opening in your skin there's a chance of it getting infected.
So go put some neosporin on it and don't do it again.
I'm sure you know how stupid cutting yourself is in the first place. Grow up or use a chainsaw next time and spare us your whining.

Depends on what you were cutting with it before, or if it was rusted. But if you clean it thoroughly with soap and water, apply a disinfectant like Neosporin and bandaid, it should be fine. I assume it's no so deep as to require stitches or a butterfly bandage? If so, of course, go seek professional medical assistance. Chill!

You need to get help with that Katie and yes, the cut will get infected so make sure and put alcohol or hydrogen peroxide on it. But then go see a counseler about your cutting, it's a bad thing to do to yourself.

If you cut yourself with anything, it can become infected.
Use rubbing alchohol and/or hydrogen peroxide to clean the wound.
And stop cutting yourself. It's unhealthy. I'd recommend seeking professional counseling.
