I know sounds odd but he has pooped in his closet between some toys, in the bathroom behind the toilet, and just yesterday in the bottom drawer of the bathroom. He never gives a reason for doing it. He just says I don't know I just wanted to. PLEASE HELP.

thanks everyone for all your help. We did make him clean it up all three times. I think it also may be a cry for attention. We have three children and he is the oldest. His sister has a genetic disorder and requires much of our time. I have consulted a psychologist to schedule some family counseling. Thanks again.

He could also be a sense of empowerment: because he can!

(It could also be that you removed the diaper or pull up pants prematurely, relative to his personal development.)

Do not punish him for doing something that is natural. . .but not the venue! Explain where he should go. . .and offer a reward for using the bathroom. . .(this is how our oldest son began chewing gum.)

You might also want to discuss this with your pediatrician. . .or advice nurse if your pediatrician is part of a practice.

This will stop soon enough. . .do not despair!

He's needing some extra attention. I had a younger cousin that pooped in shoes. It's a cry for attention. Try to follow him around during the day to catch him before he does it again--and when you do find him, sit him down and talk to him and be firm about where he can and can't defecate.

Now if someone could just help me figure out how to get my 4 1/2 y.o. daughter to use the toilet AT ALL would be a blessing! She's so stubborn!

I'm gonna tell a secret and I'm going to get bashed for it but well, I don't care lol I was caught doing the same thing when I was 5 and I remember it was because i didn't want to stop playing . I was caught of course, and humiliated, hence why I still remember LOL I would bet he is either a bit scared of the toilet, or too busy playing. Maybe if HE had to clean it or help he would stop? Sometimes kids at that age have to see the consequences of their actions to fully get it ie. you having to clean it. Gl!

Your son is acting out for attention.
He's five years old and he knows better so he is definitely doing this as a result to something that has happened.
Talk to him and dont pressure him. Just make regular conversation with him and he will open and up because kids love to talk. Soon he will tell you what the problem is..

I have a 5 year old who does the same thing, it seems that at thi sage they are realixing they have no control over themselves, they do what they are told to and so on. Because of this they use the bathroom as control. It helps them feel as if they have some control over hwat they do, i have found the best thing to help with this is to give them samll amounts of control in other areas, like picking hwat they woudl like to drimk, juice or milk instead of saying you can have milk with you rlunch, things like this will really help. Let them help pick their clothes or decide which movie thye would like to watch things like that

Find a good book that explains alot of stuff about babies and kids. Seek out other moms and see what they have to say. There are only young teens on this 'answer' website, so I'm sure they won't have any answers for you that would help in anyway.

Rosie Odonnell once said that she threw Cheerios into the toilet for her son to practice aiming. I know she meant this for peeing, but it might be fun for him? Just watch that box of Cheerios or else he might think he can just throw a few O's on the ground and pee anywhere!

He might be doing it because he is to busy to notice he has to go, but when the time comes it is to late. I also think he might be doing it for a little attention. Correcting him would be your best bet, but don't do harsh punishments because then he might just do it some more.

I would discipline him harshly next time he does it so he knows it is not OK. Also maybe put a diaper on him. Tell him if he is going to act like a baby you are going to treat him like one.
