But try to make the old testament creation mythology of Genesis out as if it were real history? YOu know humanity had a very long rich and interesting history tens of thousands of years before Abraham started Judaism.......

well dah, we don't have any books from several thousand years back and beyond, of course. But that does not mean we haven't found mummies with interesting tombs, religiosity, fanciful clothing, their migrating habits, their tools, ----there were hundreds of thousands of us before the last ice age roaming the continent(s). ---we could only imagine what went on back then, but what ever it was, it went on for a very, very long time.

lol @ irrefutable proof on something as close mindedly dogmatic as "christian answers" OMG.
I don't know how on god's green earth people can possibly believe something that makes so little sense that we and the earth with it!! have only been here several thousand years. My goodness people..... Man has been roaming the earth in his current form for about 100,000 years, I know that is hard to wrap your mind around, but there weren't nearly enough people to leave enough evidence to passify your need to have books that tell you specifically about human history, like the bible attempts to do....
What was in all those books that Christian imperialist burned over the past 2000 years? do you ever wonder?

Because the law was fulfilled in Christ.

"Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I didn't come to destroy them, but to fulfill them. For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth disappear, not one letter or one stroke of a letter will disappear from the Law until everything has been accomplished." (Matthew 5:17-18)

What is the role of the Law for today? It is a teacher. It teaches us what God demands, and it teaches us that there is no way we can follow them. That is why we need a Savior. One who is perfect and did fulfill all of the requirements of the Law. As Paul says, "And so the law was our guardian until Christ came, so that we might be justified by faith. But now that this faith has come, we are no longer under the control of a guardian." (Galatians 3:24-25)

God even says this in the Old Testament through the prophet Ezekiel, "I also gave them laws that were not good and laws they could not live by; I let them become defiled through their gifts - the sacrifice of every firstborn - that I might fill them with horror so they would know that I am the LORD. (Ezekiel 20:25-26)

Jeremiah teaches that the Old Covenant would pass away. "'The time is coming,' declares the LORD, 'when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah. It will ot be like the covenant I made with their forefathers....'" (Jeremiah 31:31-32)

So, these are just a few examples of why we "ignore" the Levitical demands of the Law of Moses.

1: Christians claim to be under a New Covenant with God.
There are two covenants in the New Testament.
* The Covenant with God, thru Jesus;
* The Covenant of Paul;

Most contemporary Christians follow the Covenant of Paul. For those Christians, that Covenant replaced the Covenants of the Tanakh.

2: Creation Mythology

The major theories as to how the Universe stated:
[These are grossly oversimplified.]
* Everything started with a "Big Bang";
* The Universe expands and contracts with time, having neither begining, nor end; "Contracting-Expanding Theory"
* The Universe remains constant, having neither begining, nor end; "Steady State Theory"

Every couple of years, some new evidence comes in, that provides further evidence that one of those theories is correct.
Both the "big Bang", and "Contracting-Expanding Theory" can fit with the Creation stories of the Bible.

Which leaves the next issue: How did Life begin?
The theory of evolution has, thus far, been the only one proposed, that might fit with the facts, as we currently understand them.
What most people don't realize, is that there are several different versions of that theory, that provide different explanations, for the anomalies in the facts, as we currently understand them.

Fundamental, Evangelical, Protestant Christians tend to decry Evolution, because they see a number of holes in it. The replacement theory "Creation Science" doesn't fit the anomalies any better than any of the theories of Evolution do.

3: Humanity had a long and rich history before Abraham.

That is a very debatable point.
* On the one hand, there are the Hindu sagas, that point to a human presence millenia ago. How long ago depends upon whether geological, or astronomical dating is used. It also depend supon which one of those theories of evolution one adheres to.
* On the other hand, there has been a marked inclination to limit the emergence of Homo Sapiens Sapiens to the last 100 000 or so years. This archeological record does not show a "rich and interesting" history.

Christians teach that many of the laws of Leviticus were intended as an introduction to what Jesus Christ would accomplish later. His life, death and resurrection issued in a whole new era. The Apostle Paul talks about this frequently in his letter to the Romans.

Christians do not ignore the Old Testament. Sorry if someone's misinformed you on this point. The Old Testament is foundational for the New Testament. Both testaments together comprise the Christian Bible.

Christians do not ignore slavery guidelines. I wrote a dissertation on the various passages throughout the Bible used in the American slavery debate. Two chapters are dedicated to what you incorrectly claim Christians ignore.

However, I will not come to the aid of any Christian who personally picks and chooses what to keep and what to throw out from the Old Testament. I'd have to investigate each person's claims on an individual basis before assessing the merit of their position.

Again, because those laws are meant for people who choose not to live under grace. And again, with all of the evidence we have today of the earth not being anymore than 6,000 years old, it takes more faith to believe in evolution than it does to believe that a loving God created this world! And to those of you who rip up God being loving, God didn't start the sin. All He did in the beginning was tell Adam and Eve not to eat the fruit! What did Eve do? She ate. What did Adam do? He ate. Disobedience! The whole reason for laws to be set up in the first place!

You know, this question has been asked several times over the last several days, and has been answered each time.

Why do people post these questions before doing their research and then make them out to be original, intelligent and witty questions?

The tens of thousands of years before Abraham thing has also been addressed. See http://christiananswers.net//creation/home.html for irrefutable proof on that one.

There are many good answers on here before mine. Maybe someone will read them and actually think about them before closing their minds.

For some reason they feel like they can pick and choose what they want to believe in the Old Testament. If they want to justify creationism or their hatred for gay people then they consult the OT. But if it says something politically incorrect then they start distancing themselves by saying "Well, Jesus changed the law. So we just have to listen to the NT." Funny how it's the same god, but they get selective memory about what he did in the OT.
Not to mention the fact that Jesus told them not to change single letter of the OT.

"It looked like this replaced into all in the following because people earlier then did all of those undesirable issues to be adversarial to Christ -- wore particular clothing, reduce hair a particular way, etc. What receives me is that it comes off that God is hateful and those people opt to die." first of all, congratulations on having an ethical experience. Many Christians ignore theirs so long because that's their God doing the slaughtering of girls and little ones. Secondly, the following i'm an atheist seminary graduate with a graduate theology degree and nil.5 a doctorate who taught and preached for years and also you want to exclude me from answering, although if reality study that maximum Christians are precisely like you: so unaware of their own faith and Biblical historic previous that even us atheists are embarassed for you and your faith. a minimum of you're asking questions and thereby admitting you don't know. maximum of your co-religionists know not some thing and picture they have each of the solutions (As a pastor it replaced into very complicated to have Christians quote Ben Franklin, questioning it replaced into scripture, and yet those should be the most pharisaic and regulation-sure). So the following is my suggestion: a good study Bible may have an creation at the front of each e book, typically each financial disaster, that ought to help you with historic previous and context and orthodox interpretation. without reading that first you'll likely believe all kinds of nonsense that even Christianity would not teach because you misread and misunderstand such issues because the Levitical guidelines for that you have not any cultural context. do not believe your fellow Christians to continually know their Bible. most of the Christian people posting the following know very just about not some thing yet are particular each thing they imagine they know is god-breathed, regardless of the very incontrovertible actuality that it straight away conflicts with scripture (some thing maximum have in no way studied systematically).

Christians believe that the Jewish text from the Old Testament are in fact true but most of the laws and beliefs of the Jewish faith are not followed by Christians because they follow the teaching of Jesus Christ, who in fact was a Jew. In one instance from the New Testament, a Jewish teacher asks Jesus what he thinks is the greatest commandment in the Ten Commandments and he says it is to "Love your God with all your heart, mind, and soul'. This was not in the original Ten Commandments and is not recognized by the Jewish faith but Christians believe it is relevant to all the Commandments because Jesus is God. All in all, Christians believe that the teachings of Jesus are more relavant than the Ancient Laws of the Jewish faith. If you read the whole Bible it will make sense. I don't have time to explain it to you right now and unfortunitely you will get a lot of dumb answers from the ignorant Christians rather then the Christians who did bother to read it and not rely on what there sunday school teacher told them.

Christians are FAMOUS for picking and choosing only the things from the bible that they agree with and ignoring HUNDREDS of other biblical laws that aren't convenient.

CHRISTIANS ARE THE MOST HYPOCRITICAL PEOPLE ON EARTH.
