Any breed is a good dog. Remember, a dog (any dog) is only as good as it's training.

Generally speaking, all dogs are good dogs. Your question needs some clarification. Do you have some particular use in mind for the Dachshunds?

YES! They can be very lovable and are great lap dogs. Ours always loved to sit and watch TV with us - we miss her a lot. They are VERY strong-willed though, and should be taken to Obedience classes so you can prevent the potential attitude issues. House-training can be a big issue and can take a lot of time to figure out what works and what doesn't. Be prepared to spend a lot of time on house-training until you both get it right. If you live in a colder climate, training can be a bit more difficult 'cause they don't like to (or can't) always go out in the cold. Our little one would literally freeze in just a few (5) minutes on days when there was snow out and it was 20 Deg.F or lower. We would have to go get her and carry her in. We finally made her a litter box for winter time, which helped a lot. Go to a reliable breeder.

Like several others have said, Daschunds can be aggressive and very stubborn. They are loyal and lovable and extremely strong willed. An obedience training course is advisable, and I've learned that "positive reinforcement" doesn't need to be in the same sentence as "daschund" None of the weenie dogs I've ever had seem to understand it. Maybe others have better luck. I've always had to be force-full (not mean, just assertive) because they will try to rule you. They are very sweet and extremely intelligent, and if you are able to teach them who rules the roost, you will have a best friend for all of their life.

They are great, but can be nervous and edgy. They are emotionally needy dogs and will get even if you leave them alone a lot. (Shred things). They do bark a bit and are protective - but very loyal and lovable. They like to sleep under covers with you, so if you don't allow that, give them a warm bed and a blanket they can snuggle in.
They are a hunting breed, originally, so they will go after small game and can be aggressive.

Dachshunds, like every dog, is a good pet. They are lovable and trainable. Their small size makes them good for apartment living.

generally, not if you have small kids. They are snappy, and don't like to be handled and poked at by kids trying to play with them. They are a far cry from a golden retriever when it comes to being good with kids!
