I just recently got a little kitten. Before I got her, I had a cat who is male and recently turned one. For some reason, my little kitten seems to be attempting to nurse on my older cat. My fiancee says that they are doing something else, but I know where my cat's thing is (unfortunatly). Mind you, I am not complaining too much because it has calmed down my other cat immensly. If you could clue me in, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thank you!

Your kitten was probably taken from it's mother too early. I had a very young kitten once that would suckle the fringe in my afghan.

Your kitty is simply trying to nurse, or comfort itself. Relax. It's a nice bonding experience for both of them.

The others are right. My one year old kitty was given to me too soon and has been suckling on my clothes since. He'll cuddle in my arms and seek out a collar or bow or ruffle and suckle away as he kneads with his paws. At this point I'm not really expecting him to grow out of it. (I'm the only one he does this with though, so I guess I'm his surrogate mama.) Don't worry about it. They sound like they're bonding well, which not every multi-cat household has happen.

Everyone is right your kitten was taken from its mother before it was properly weaned but I just wanted to add that you shouldn't discourage the behavior. Remember its a defect that she will never grow out of. You might want to get her her own blanket (soft and furry) because even though your other cat is cool with it he may eventually push her away and then she'll be looking for something else to suck. You don't want her to start sucking on your comforter or clothes she'll destroy them.

Let them go, they're fine. The kitten feels security with a cat to nurse off of (even if it's a boy) and the boy cat will bond to the kitten by being nursed off of. It's perfectly normal. They will bond better. Leave them alone!!!

the kitten is remembering its mama, and by doing this they are both bonding. don't worry , and tell your fiancee to get his mind out of the gutter. cats don't do that.

You didn't say how young your new baby is, but I'm guessing that perhaps she was weaned to young, so she's just still attempting to nurse. That your male cat is allowing it is surprising, but very sweet. Sounds like they're bonding and will be best buddies -- which is awesome. Nursing is probably the most pleasurable of experiences in cats lives -- so they comfort themselves with things associated with that. You've noticed when your adult cats knead their paws against something when they're happy? That's an association with nursing, because that's what they do against mommy's belly to stimulate milk flow. How adorable!

Oh yes, and tell your fiance... cats don't do that! (Lame!)

The cat has not been fully weaned yet, you need to try to keep them apart until your kitten is comfortable on its own.
