Anyone that gives you a problem about it is just insecure with themselves. Drinking is so rooted in college culture, that many people just assume everyone likes it when that isn't true. By them hassling you or making fun of you is just their way of covering up the fact that maybe they drink excessively or out of peer pressure or whatever- pretty much they want to make you look/feel inferior so that they don't. In all reality, not being a drinker is an admirable thing...the fact that you don't do it shows good character and means you won't be getting in any trouble for it. I liken it to children who make fun of the smartest kids in class, those kids have NOTHING to be ashamed of, but others pick on them because they are different, and in all reality are often jealous of them. When someone gives you a hard time about it just ignore them, smile, and silently know that your life is probably in a much better place than theirs is.

because they are immature. I took a lot of flack in college too because I cannot drink. I am basically allergic - half a beer would put me under the table. Don't worry about it. When you still have money for pizza at the end of the week and your buddies are scrounging to recycle used beer cans so they can have coins for the washing machine you can laugh at them.

i have a clue what your talking about, when i was in high school all my friends drank, but i didn't, so I'd get a lot of "good girl" comments. two years later I've gone to college and found new friends that hardly drink themselves and really don't care that i don't drink at all. it's not such a big deal, just ignore the idiots and hang with people that respect you and the choices you make.

Sadly because these days that's like a rite of passage or something at that age. Yea granted I did alot of drinking at 21 but now I rarely ever drink if at all...same w/ my bf...and we both JUST turned 23 a few months back! Tell people it's just personal preference & to get off your back & to go drink themselves stupid if they have such a problem with it.

i have been battling alcoholism since i was quite young. believe me you do not want to go there. i did not finish school nor did i make much of myself. so i say to you stick to your guns and don't allow others to peer pressure you into anything. soon you will be finished college and you can go onwards to a much better life. besides, alcohol will always be there and so are drugs. temptation is everywhere and it is'nt easy to make the right choices. all you can do is follow your heart. by the way this is coming from a 52 yr old. so good luck and hang in.

You are a good person. I am 21 and in college as well and I hate alcohol, cigarettes, and smoking of any kind. I think it is all bad for your health and I do not care what people say or think about me. Your friend follow their friends and peer pressure and they think for themselves. They need to grow up. You are a smart person and do not let people get to you. Be your own person.

Because a lot of (even most, for some) socializing for college students your age involves alcohol. Like anything else, people tend to pressure others to conform, even if they're not consciously trying to be mean.
You're not alone. I'm in the same boat you are.

Simply because you're going against the "normal" college student behaviour. Ignore them if you can & enjoy college to the fullest. Drinking doesn't enhance your college education or experience. Some people will argue that it does. That's their opinion to which they're entitled.

Just ignore them. My son is also 21 and doesn't drink and his room mates think it's great! They nick named him "All Natural!" So don't worry what they say. I'm sure they won't have a problem with it if they need you to give them a ride home some night because their too drunk.
