We cant pick our parents nor can parents pick their children or believe me there would be a whole lot of the given back. Parents raise their children with the best morals and values they can give them and in the end hope they have taught their children enough to be a good, loving,trusting child. To blame someones parents for the way they turned out is just plain wrong. To blame the child is a reflection on the parents who raised them, although parents are not to blame for their childs every action. Parents have no control over their child every minute of everyday so we trust them to stay out of trouble and safe.

I think in some cases its because everyone really loves & respects their parents and those are the two people you would stand up most and fight for. Therefore if someone is insulting you and getting no respones they tend to hit you elsewhere. You know when you see a movie and they always kidnap the kids to get what they want from the parents? Same kinda thing - parents live for their children and we as children know that so we have the utmost respect & love for them - If someone was saying shite about my parents I would be all over their asses (not litterly) But it would bother me more then it would if you called me names & insulted me :- See what I mean? :)

Even if you dont like your parents that much, deep down you still love them, so in the end, if someone insults them then you are more likely to want to retaliate with an insult just as bad. Thats how people get a rile out of you.

We all tend to put our parents on pedastals don't we, to protect them. So when we in an argument that we almost certain we can't win, to defend ourselves we bring the parents into it. As you will know if you bring a third party into any conversation you have 2 against 1.
I however am not afraid of admitting defeat so I would surrender before it got to this point, however I am no saint neither and I have said it before without thinking and went to my friend straight after to appologise.

Because they want a reaction from you and in most cases it works as people can take a bit of verbal abuse thats aimed at them but when some one says your moms a big fat greasy hoar its a bit too personnel I know if someone said that to my face they would be waking up in a hospital bed

people are stupid. Get used to it. lol. I can't stand it when people insult my family for no reason. I slammed a guy on the ground once for it. It was pretty fun. :P

whether parents or kids or anyone

Because your parents raised you, you didnt raise them, if they down your parents, they are saying that your parents did a poor job raising you and therefore you both suck!
