Many people nowadays lack common courtesy. It is a courtesy to the store to park your cart in a return stall or take it back to the store, after all they had some goods that you went shopping there for. However, there are times when that doesn't happen and luckily there are paid employees who can round them up. I think we all should try to do the right thing but there will be those people who don't even try and we just have to let that pet peeve go.

I have done it myself occasionally at Wal-mart. After dragging four kids through the store, trying to get through all the people that think it's okay to stand in the middle of the aisle to gossip, standing in line for an hour behind the little old lady with 20 cats and 100 coupons, dealing with the rude cashier, and getting back outside to discover that is pouring down rain, I am just so frustrated that I don't want to walk all the back to the bin to return my cart after I put the kids in the car and unload my groceries. Also, there are no bins at the far end of the parking lanes. Maybe they should spread the bins out farther instead of having 3 crammed into the end closest to the store.

I agree that this is an annoying event and have encountered a rolling shopping cart as I was trying to leave my parking place. Now here is a possible explanation. Some stores like WalMart do not offer any carry out assistance so you are on your own when leaving the store. How would you like to be a parent with one or more children in tow doing grocery shopping. Shopping to meet your needs, dealing with absent-minded customers, crowds, long lines, etc. is bad enough without children. Try finishing a shopping trip and loading all of your items into your car, getting the children into car seats if they are small, keeping the kids from honking the horn, fighting with each other, unlocking or opening the doors after you have put them inside, or preventing them from trying to open their favorite "goody" until you get home, and being aware of strangers nearby whose intentions you don't know, as well as trying to get home before the frozen goods thaw and you've got the reasons why some people regard putting their cart in the little cart "corral" as a bit of a nuisance. They're not trying to ruin your day even if it does.

Because they are too lazy to take them back. But try to think of all sides. Could be a disabled person and the cart bin is too far. Or like in my case I have to carry a 18 lb. baby back across the parking lot with a 6 yr. old in tow. I do try to park right beside the cart bin, and thats what everyone should do that has these types of issues. But, for the most part its lazy people who dont care that people have to retrieve each individual cart.

It's all part of the "what will employees do" mentality. Some people have such drab lives that it is a luxury for them to use something and not put it back. They never think the breeze might blow the shopping cart into their own car. Try going to a more upscale market.

I'm a mother of 3 and I always make sure the cart goes back to the cart return!!! I almost hit a cart one day because some dumb butt didn't bother with putting it in the return and it got really windy and blew the cart in my direction.

Really, it is just plain laziness and it drives me nuts too! I mean most stores have plenty of cart returns in the parking lots where you only have to walk like 20 yards to return your cart!!
And nice pic...if that is you for real!!

Which is why all grocery stores should make you insert some coins just so you have to bring your cart back to the stand. But then, some people still wouldn't care... I know the highest value coin in U.S. is only $0.25 (or do they still have the $0.50 ones?)... see I'm from Canada and we have $1 and $2 coins so usually people want their $1 back but a lot of them don't care about $0.25 as well...

I refuse to leave my children unattended in the car to return the cart. I try to park right next to a cart corral, but sometimes there just aren't any spots.
