What are your experiences with it?

I ask because my mom and sister believe they have seen it. I just don't buy it. I think it would be pretty cool in a way, but what's the point of it?

Speaking in tongues can be 2 separate things. One is what people all over the planet do. We speak in tongues (or languages). There have been cases where someone spoke a language he did not know, but there was someone around him that understood the words (even if he himself did not know).
The other is speaking words (or sounds) that are placed in you by the Holy Spirit. No one knows these words. Basically God see what's in your heart, but if you do not know how to talk to Him about it, then He will supply the sounds that need to be said, in order for Him to take action.

Yes, I believe it's real. I spoke in tongues one time when I was praying for someone, but that was it. I had no idea what I was saying but I felt the power of the Holy Spirit. The Bible also talks about speaking in tongues
Acts 10:46 "And there could be no doubt about it, for they heard them SPEAKING IN TONGUESand praising God."
1 Corinthians 14:5 "I wish you all had the gift of SPEAKING IN TONGUES...."
1 Corinthians 14:13 "So anyone who has the gift of SPEAKING IN TONGUES should pray also for the gift of interpretation in order to tell people plainly what has been said."
1 Corinthians 14:22 "So you see that SPEAKING IN TONGUESis a sign, not for believers, but for unbelievers...."
1 Corinthians 14:39 "So, dear brothers and sisters, be eager to prophesy, and don't forbid SPEAKING IN TONGUES"

Yes, I attended a boarding school as a teenager and heard strange sounds from the room next door. I entered and witnessed a student speaking in tongues (it was the real thing). She was very much into her spiritualism and the other girls made fun of her. It changed my life. Although I have not always lived a good life, Jesus was in my heart from that time on. It was the most important thing that ever happended to me.

In short, speaking in tongues is the doorway to the Holy Spirit's power working in our lives today.

I believe many are fakers. However, I do believe in tongues. When i was about 10, i awoke and went to my mothers room to see if she was up yet. She was yelling (in what sounded to be tongues) and crying out in the language. It scared me badly and I didnt know what to do. Should I wake her? So, I went back off to my room and sat in the doorway. She woke up later and told me she had a terrible dream. I told her about the sounds she was making and it sounded like she was begging for her life or something and that it really scared me. She said she woke and heard herself speaking them but had no idea after she woke what she had just said. She went on to tell me that she dreampt she stood before God. He was on a throne and pointed away shaking his head. Two black aparitions grabbed her arms and drug her away..flying. The took her to a place that was pitch black. She could see nothing and had an overwhelming sense of dread, there was no escape. She said it sounded like a wall in front of her with agonizing screams coming from behind it. So yes, I do believe in tongues.

You watch peoples mouths, its body language, it isnt a direct language, or even a conscious language, its language from the subconscous, pay close attention to tongue body language, if that makes any sense. And there you have speaking in tongues. Body to body communication.

yes its real have been praying in tongues for years now. It opens up your prayer life u don't even know what u r praying only God does its awesome

I've been to confrences where people speak in tounges and I'm not too convinced its real. It kind of just sounds like a bunch of mumbling to me...
