I've owned 93, 94, 95 & 97 Tauruses. What I've learned from them: If you keep them maintained there's not really a better car out there for dependability. I've driven all my tauri over 100,000 miles with no problems. The 96 is a steal at $1000. They usually retail aroun $2000-$3000.
Besides your dad is there to help you keep the maintainence up on it.

Not a bad car, not woth much. Ford cars are the cheapest american made cars. Examples: I own a 99 tuarus wagon fully loaded and I picked it up used from a dealership and it had 67,000. miles last month when I got it and the price was 350. I own a 2001 ford ranger which I bought from a big Ford dealership. It has 41,000. miles and that cost me 1200. Since dad is the only owner and took care of the car, it is a good deal for you.

I have a 1998 Taurus, and I love it. It has some "issues" as all older cars do, but they are relatively minor. If you can get this car for under $1000 and then keep up the maintenance, it sounds like a great car for you. It's probably a 6, though, and may not get great gas mileage. Remember that.

Good car, the 97 models where better, Just be sure that the coolent system on that car is or has been changed and flushed due to problems in the coolent system a flush and new coolent every 30,000 miles is a must on it. They had sway bar link problems but nothing major and easy to replace. Over all a good car to own. Not trying to change your mind with defects just letting you know the cons. Like I said a good car to have, if I liked cars instead of trucks that is the model I would have.

Ford Taurus and the Mercury Sable are essentially the same car with different trim. Better one you know that one you don't, and the price sounds fair enough. I prefer Chevrolet, but that's just me. If you are approaching 100,000 miles, I would have the timing belt changed too, they go out about then.

I say take it. My entire family loves Tauruses. We personally think they are great, and pretty durable. That's all my grandpa will drive. I am getting a 2000 Taurus from my mom when I turn 16 and I'm soooo excited! They are comfortable, get good gas mileage, and are durable. Plus, my boyfriend has 1, and my best friend's boyfriend has 1. We luv em here!

Well first of all, i do not have a 1996 ford taurus, but me and my family have owned plenty of ford vehicles, and have had excellent luck with them, my mustang has 116,000 miles on it right now, and its still running really sweet. And since your father has taken good care of it, then it will be just fine for you.

I'd run personally. I have owned two and both have caught fire under the hood while just in the driveway.
It's a to quote adam sandler (piece of shi# car ) and has made me turn to chevy.
I know we all have our preferences on makes and models but this is a bad model. for that money you could do a lot better.
