I want to groom my dog myself. Is there a difference between pet grooming razors and human ones?

Yes, there's a huge difference between the two. Go to a pet store (i would recommend a Petsmart, I work at one and know we have a large section for grooming) and take a look. There are generally lots of specific ones depending on what type of dog you have. Make sure to ask someone for help.

I prefer to get someone else to groom my dog, but just make sure you know what you're doing.

There is a great difference between human and animal clippers. Step away from cheap pet clippers. They don't give the finish of a good profession clipper and they usually don't even make it through an entire haircut without dulling and leaving your dog looking like crap. You want to get a professional animal clipper. They have a very strong motor and very dependable detachable blades. The 3 best clippers are Oster A5, Andis AG and Wahl MK. There are different numbered blades for different length cuts....#3 1/2F being the longest cut down to a #10F being a very close shave.

Even though I've given you the clipper advise that you asked for...I really want to stress the importance of NOT trying to clip your dog on your own without any training, knowledge or experience. You can seriously injure your dog, not to mention make him look horrible....since you are working with sharp tools and a live animal. Unless you know the proper techniques, have the proper equipment, the proper know-how, and can handle your dog on a grooming table...self grooming can be very dangerous. It is not recommended. You should be able to take a quick basic course at your local college or find a groomer in your area who could show you the basics. Just don't attemp it on your own without knowing what you're doing first....for the sake of your dog.

Yes, the pet clippers have stronger motors as they are needed to be used longer. I use adis and wahl brand. You can get a nice one for $100 to $150. It pays for itself in a few months. Considering, a groomer will charge minimum $20 and up per groom, every 6 weeks at least for a poodle.
Heres the site I buy from, www.petedge.com

Buy one with detatchable combs.
