This may work well with mpeg haven't tried it with that type but it does convert diff sound sound formats and a whole bunch of other video file types.I have also tried the newer version but found this one easier to use.

most of the commercial products will. There is a free2try video format converter on Download.com. Try WinAVI Video Converter 6.3. You realize you still need the correct CODECs. If you can play the video you can convert the video.

You could get a program called Super ©.
This can change the file extention.
