Ours does too. We taught him to do it by praising him when he even started to come towards us with the toy in his mouth. Eventually, he came closer and closer, until now he comes up and drops it at our feet. We'll also wake up every morning with ALL his toys in the bed with us.
Anything light that he can carry easily in his mouth will do. Sometimes it is one of those little feathered toys or a catnip mouse.
But actually one of the things he likes the most is when I wad up the envelope that instant cocoa comes in. When I'm making a cup of cocoa, he'll come running up and wait for me to make the ball and flick it into the room. It makes a great little ball and has a very satisfying "skittering" sound as the cat bats it around the room, especially on bare floors.

My cat does it with these twisty straw things. And foam balls. It's funny because I'll throw the toy into my room so the dog can't steal it (there's a baby gate to keep her out) and Chloe (cat) will jump over the gate, run into my room and bring the toy back out.

Yes, my siamese mix retrieves all kinds of toys, doesn't matter what it is. I've even seen him retrieve a huge gorilla stuffed animal bigger than him. I never taught him, I just figure siamese cats are just different than most cats!

I have seen my cats retrieve their toys when they want to play more. Sometimes they will even drag their toys downstairs or bring them to my bedroom door and want to play. They kinda play fetch!

I had nine cats at one time, they all learned different things, one cat would retrieve and drop, one would roll over on command, a few would sit when told. Cats are very very smart little critters.

My cat naturally retrieved toys also... those rainbow-colored foam balls for cats. He also "barked" at insects & such.
He acted more like a dog than our Husky who didn't bark or chase toys.

I had a cat who would fetch crumpled up bits of paper, started doing it of his own accord. I never managed to teach him to put them in the waste basket for me though!

One of my cats will retrieve her catnip mouse, toss it in the air, catch it, throw it and go get it.
She also plays with pens.....does the same thing as with the mouse. We didn't teach her to do this.....she just started doing it.
