Federally, retailers that accept credit cards have to truncate to the last 5 digits or less, but that rule/legislation only starts Dec. 4, 2006. It does not apply to hand-written receipts, but only on electronic ones. So, if you just got a receipt with your full CC info on it, there's no federal law against it (although your individual state may have separate legislation).
So, the rule of thumb to prevent identity/credit theft is to keep all your receipts/carbon copies, and shred/burn or otherwise distroy them.

No not really - it isn't illegal. You have given them your card as part of a transaction (buying goods or services). To complerte that transaction, they have to make a record of it and your credit card in order process your purchase. Some stores may give you a receipt with only the last four numbers showing - but there certainly is no violation to print your credit card number on your receipt.

no , i still have the dinosaur credit card swipe machine where it stamps your numbers on the receipt , it simply makes a copy of the top of your card on the receipt
