If you don't believe in evolution then there is nothing anyone can tell you that will change your mind.
But if you have an open mind, you will see that there are lots of arguments by creationists to try and poke holes in the evolutionary theory and yet they still offer no evidence to back up their claims that what they believe is true. Evolution is the best explanation that we've come up with so far that does not involve magic. Science looks for explanations in the natural world. Creationists look at something for which they can find no other satisfactory explanation and simply state that it was made that way. This is not good enough for a scientist to accept. It's laziness to give up the search for a natural answer in favor of a supernatural one.

In my view, there's a problem with the way your question is phrased. The term 'Did it start' suggests there is a begining followed by a chronological order to everything, which I think is entirely impossible. There isn't now and never was a begining,or an end. What is here now,was always here and always will be,but its form will continue to change due to evolution.Evolution happens during life, which means it's happening constantly. It's driven by all living species wishing to continue to survive.Amongst mankind, the driving force of evolution are emmigrants who in order to improve their chances of survival, get on ships to live somewhere which may be warmer, colder, greener, dryer, wetter, more abundant, whatever they see as a priority for themseves and their dependants to better survive.Upon doing so ,for example they may move toward or away from the equator [for example].This would trigger for themselves and following generations a more suitable skin complexion through hormonal changes due to differing amount of ultra violet rays.Hence a new cycle of evolution gets underway.Sorry my explanation is not very scientific but it's the only solution I could find when I was recently asked the same question by one of my kids.

All are theories made by brilliant human mind. Frankly speaking who was present when big bang happened or universe was formed. No body knows for sure how life started on earth.
Single cells with a well-formed nucleus appeared
and plants such as algae and animals such as protozoa evolved.
These single cells began to live together in colonies
to form more complex algae and invertebrate animals.
Vertebrates such as fish appeared
about the same time as the plants began to live on land,
rapidly followed by the invertebrates.
Later vertebrates (amphibians) also evolved to live on land,
and reptiles dominated the land for millions of years.
Plants, insects and vertebrates evolved
into flowers, bees and mammals
all at about the same time.
People appeared very recently
and rapidly dominated and transformed the entire planet
(My personal view everything started by chance and kept evolving over a base period of million of years.)

simple - the Theory of Evoluition is that all living things evolved from a single cell organism. That eventually grew to be a monkey, which evolved into a man.....if you believe that
Hmmmm...where did the single cell organism come from?

One creature does not evolve into something else; ie. an ape into a man. The creature evolves within itself in order to survive the elements it lives in. When it cannot evolve (adapt) it becomes extinct. That is why you no longer see dinosaurs walking the earth; they could not survive.

Evolution is a joke -
You would be better served looking at this from a creation standpoint and when you see some of the grand designs around you, evolution will drop off the radar

Essentially it works like this:
A mutation occurs in the genetic code of an organism. That mutation either benefits the organism, hurts the organism or has no effect. If the mutation benefits the organism, that organism is more likely to survive and reproduce passing the mutation on to it's offspring.
That's how evolution works.

if you really want to know, why don't you read a book on the subject?
biological evolution started very small and simple. it takes many, many, many years for evolutionary changes to be observable.
beyond that, read a book! i'm sure there are many out there that have put this information into short, simple form so you don't have to read a biology textbook to get some knowledge on the subject.

Charles Darwin denounced his theory on evolution. Since he came up with the idea and then said, yeah...I'm wrong. What's the point of going further on the thought of evolution?
