The answer depends on source...acording to Gita and Upnishads, just one God -all enocmpassing...
There are people who say that as many as 330 million gods are there so till 1900 India had more Gods than people...plus Hindus will gladly ray to Jesus, Allah and Yehowah. The point is Hindus are openminded they will not flasify each other's or anyone else's idea of God...they will accomodate as many Gods as needed to keep everyone happy.

While there are only 8 principal Gods, there are a great many lessor spiritual beings equivilant to the Christian 'angels'. In addition, many of the 8 principal deities can manifest him/herself in a variety of forms as they choose. There are a variety of websites that spell out the qualities and characteristics of the various Hindu Gods, and all of them can be found thru google or ask.com.

Tabby: "Hindi" is a language. "Hindus" are people who practice Hinduism. Otherwise, your answer is spot on.

In addition, there are thousands of Deitis and a few prominent figures such as Vishnu, Shiva, and Krishna. Brahma is the main universal "God" figure, for lack of more accurate wording. It is a deeply profound religion and very much worth exploring.

So many great responses here!

Well, there are many hundreds of Hindu Gods. However, there are three major ones- Bhrahma, Shiva, and Vishnu. All are manifestations of one universal spirit (or all powerful "god" for lack of a better term).

3 million !!!!
But the concept is not of the number of gods. It is about freedom of worship. It is about acceptance. It is about treating everything godly and with respect.
