I recently, like a week ago, went thru the tooth extraction, and my dentist told me that for the first 24 hours I should only eat soft food, like mashed potatoes, jello, popsicles. Drink pretty much only water. Soda will burn burn burn, and any acidic drinks and/or food will do the same. Don't eat anything that you can't wash out with a quick swish. DON'T USE LISTERINE.... It burns like no other. Don't use straws, the sucking will loosen forming blood clots, and that feels like your gettin your tooth pulled all over again. Hope that helps.

Soft foods. The first thing I ate after having a wisdom tooth removed was a small container of gravy from Dairy Queen.

Drinks should not be too hot or too cold. Nothing from a straw for a couple of days...the suction in your mouth to bring up the liquid can dislodge the clot. If the clot gets dislodged, you can experience a dry socket (it is a new adventure in pain!). If the socket does not heal properly you will have a little hole in your gum that will catch bits of food for months. It is irritating and does nothing to help your breath. I had to use a water-pick to keep the food washed out

P.S. It is all better now (Thanks for asking).

You'll want to drink cool liquids, preferably drinks without sugar, carbonation, etc, for the first 24/48 hrs. you can suck on ice to alleviate swelling caused by the extraction. Take 4 advil every 8 hrs, this is prescription strength. As always, the best thing to do is talk to your dentist or oral surgeon performing the extraction before/during/after the extraction for the best advice. Also, there is always a chance of infection during this. Best advice is to talk to your doctor, they can recomment treatments, drugs, etc.

soft foods like puddings and jellos, oat meal, scrambled eggs, mashed potato, soup, bananas. do not drink anything out of a straw. the sucking on the straw could dislodge the clot that is forming and increase the bleeding. things that are too cold could also give you a little pain as that area is going to be senstive.

Foods - Apple Sauce, Cottage Cheese, Jello, Ice Cream, Popsicles, Mashed Potatoes, and stuff that is soft,

Drinks - Have to be cold anything, no carbonated drinks (those might sting or something).

Somethin' soft, like bananas and soup. And for drinks, I don't think it really matters. When I had four teeth pulled, I was able to drink Dr. Pepper (or any other kinda pop) without havin' any problems.
