Iam a christian and I regularly go out ballroom dancing. It is a fun activity and very healthy. And what do you say to others who believe that christians should not participate in any form of dancing?

I don't ball room dance because ...well... I don't know how to.

There are also groups that do not use music during worship/hymns.
There are groups that don't allow makeup, fancy cloths, jewelry.
Others don't let visitors participate or ask them to leave during certain parts of the service (I've experienced it personally).

The real question is God OK with dancing? ...well...I think so - In 1st Chronicles 15:29 we find King David dancing and celebrating in the road in front of the whole Kingdom and he also played music - although admittedly at different times.
In that same version 15:29 we also find Michal daughter of (former king) Saul "...watched from a window..." and "...despised him in her heart."
I guess some people just don't like to dance.

So where does one learn how to ball room dance anyway?

I say that they need to read the Bible. Psalm 149:3 and 150:4 both say to praise God with the dance. So ALL forms of dance can not be bad.

Where most Christians object is when the dancing is of such an intimate and suggestive nature that it causes lustful desires.

Also because at the time when "no dancing" was enforced, about the only place you could do dancing was in bars and the likes where other temptations were present. Many of the girls who worked dance halls doubles as prositutes.

But normal ballroom dancing? Nothing wrong. Enjoy it.

I personally enjoy square dancing, and am currently singing and dancing in a musical this summer. And I am a Christian.

I tell them to get a life. Dancing is good exercise. Besides king David danced before the Lord on several occasions.
