Is it an optical or ball mouse?

For a ball mouse, take the bottom cover off and remove the ball. Get some cotton swabs and rubbing alcohol, dip the swabs and clean out the hole where the ball rests. It can get kinda funky in there. Don't scrub too hard, you may damage something- be gentle until the swabs start coming out clean. (Keep changing swabs once they get dirty.) You may also want to wet a paper towel with some rubbing alcohol and rub the ball down with it.

As for an optical mouse, get a soft cloth dipped in water and gently rub it over the soft pads on the bottom of the mouse. They're found on the 4 corners of the mouse. Once the pads become slightly wet (not soaked), pick a clean white sheet of paper and run the mouse over it. The paper will absorb any of the remaining dust or stickly grease.

There are chances that some grease is also sticking to your mouse pad. Apply some mild-soap water to the surface and wipe it with the cloth.

If the mouse is still acting funny, it might be more than just a dirtiness issue and may be time for a new one.

If it is a wheel mouse pull out the ball and clean the rollers of debris. If it is an optical mouse, if you use a mousepad try it without. The surface for an optical can determine how well it works. If the mouse pointer just moves slower than normal, check the Mouse settings in Control Panel. You can adjust the speed at which the pointer responds to mouse movements.

START
CONTROL PANEL
MOUSE

Look at the settings and see if it set too slow.
If you have a track ball mouse it may be full of dust. Clean it.

Invest in a wireless optical mouse.

You probably just need a new battery, try changing it out and see if that works, or you can dust the little ball on the inside by taking the back part off, take the ball out, blow on it, and put it back....that sometimes works as well. Good luck! =)

well. just check the ball on your mouse, it probably has a lot of dust clogged up in there, thats usually what slows it down
