Depends on the person. Best thing to do is ask if they like praise. If they are the strong quiet type, next best thing is to give praise and ask later if they liked it.
For example:
SQT (Strong Quiet Type) takes out the trash.... comes back in the house.
You: "Thanks for taking out the trash, you big strong hunk you."
SQT: *grunt*
time passes
You: "Do you like it when I call you a big strong hunk for taking out the trash or do you think its stupid?"
If he does this:
SQT: *grunt* *smile* *blush*
- means he likes praise.
If he does this:
SQT: *frown*
- means he loves you, and knows you love him, and does not want you to prove it to him all the time.

Of Course They DO! Help them to boost their ego. otherwise, without praise, they are sad and won't anything as they do not have the 'backup'
