They accidentally kill people and they often get off, they do all kinds of things that would get the typical citizen locked up for years, and they treat citizens of all backgrounds like human garbage. Yeah I know they get fed up because they deal with a lot of scum bags all day, but they abuse their power far too often. They're supposed to serve the public, not just their buddies in the police department.

Also, no people I am not a criminal and am not involved with the corrections system. I asked this question after watching so many news reports on officers getting off for crimes and "Cops", and my personal experience getting traffic tickets and stories from friends. Yes the majority are good, but there are too many of the bad as well, more than people think.

This is a tough question.

In general, I support the police and have had generally positive experiences with them. However, like anywhere and any job, there are a bad few. The problem is that the position of police officer includes a lot of power, and a bad-cop is in a position to do a lot of damage.

-I don't think that killing a cop should be considered a worse offence than killing anyone else. Is your life realy 'worth more' than mine, or my daughter's, just because you wear a badge?

- I disagree with the assumption of many courts that a police officer is more honest than anyone else.

-I should have the right to defend myself, even against the police.

In short, I think we should acknowledge that police are human. They should be respected, but we should acknowledge that they are subject to the same temptations and tendencies as anyone else.

I have had a very good experience with the police the time that I got arrested. They were perfect gentlemen. That was the exception to ways I have been treated in the past by them. I have been pulled over a lot for no reason at all. They always say some lie that "your car fits the description of a vehicle used in an armed robbery". Then they search the car and find nothing. My neighbor was stunned 7 times by them in broad daylight. The man subsuquently died from the tazing. This all happened while 6 or 7 officers just stood there doing nothing to try to subdue him. Unfortuantely it is them we have to call when we need assistance. They are a close knit fraternity that puts themselves above the law on many ocassions.

Well you certainly seem to think you are an authority on Pricks so I guess you being a master prick, detector we should all give you a chance at voicing you opinion.
And what pray tell, did a Law Enforcement officer due to you to peek your competitive spirit and make you say things that you can not possible back up. Since you took the time to post your opinion why not give all of us the whole story that you base your opinion on and I quote, " a lot of cops are pricks that treat everyone like crap and are on a power trip"? You saying it does not make it so.
If you feel so adamantly that a police officer has done something so wrong why don't you report him to the FBI who polices the police on Civil rights violations or go to The chief of police and talk with him/her and explain your anger instead of venting on Yahoo which can do nothing for you.Actually you have a civic obligation to your fellow man/woman to do so. Unless of course you are not civic minded which is usually the case with remarks like this one..
I have found throughout my life that people who gripe are just complainers and not doers and want everyone else to do there bidding for them. Reach down between your legs and see if you really have a set and if you do go and do something about your accusations instead of posting it here. It serves no use-full purpose for you or anyone else.

I agree with you to a certain extent because there are a few officers that are there to do their job , the right way, and actually care about people, BUT THEY OFTEN GET LOST IN THE SHADOWS OF THE OTHER SCUM BAGS. Like at my high school, we had an officer that was a total perv, when we were at school he would make comments about a girls butt, and no girl in the whole school was comfortable being alone with him b/c he would stare at us as we were walking , or stare at our chest. A lot of the black guys complained about being harassed and a lot of white guys complained about the things he would tell them to do or ask them about any blacks doing anything. He would often get rough with the guys in his office and tell them that nobody would believe them. So one day last year we seen him on the news on his convict picture , he was arrested for domestic violence and he was fired from law enforcement all together. But the new cop is great!

Okay... I've NEVER had a bad experience with cops. I've been pulled over, ticketed, asked questions.... all that. I deserved it every time. Did you? Probably. 98% of cops are good people that just want to make it home at night. If it came to you or some thug a$$hole going home that night.... wouldn't you rather it be you that makes it home? I think so. Cops do more good than bad.... by far. next time instead of hating... maybe you should try and understand and help by cooperating or whatever being helpful would be.

I completely agree. They should need to have law degrees for the amount of power they have. They do whatever they want and Im sick of seeing them abuse their power day in and day out. All they focus on is ticketing speeders when there are drug dealers down the street they leave alone because they are firnds with them or get paid off. They also get in fights all the time when theyre drunk with no repricussions. There should be a seperate wing of our government strictly used for cleaning up police departments. They should do major jailtime if they get caught violating their power.

I dont know..cops in Canada are pretty good, I have met a few like you are describing most of them were from my own gender, female cops tend to be more on a power trip than the men for some reason....and in all my encounters they were psyco biotches must be because they are so defensive being in a male dominated work force...I dont know they are retarded though.

I agree they get a power trip, but you are right they shouldn't treat regular citizens like crap. they will keep doing it until they get what they deserve and put together with other inmates in the correctional facilities so they see how it feels.

I dislike cops, but since I realize not all of them are pricks, I respect their position. But yah, I severely dislike cops, from both personal situations and others I have observed on the job.

I agree 110% cops are nothing but stuck up over grown kids that were pick on and bullied in school.
