There were 360 idols which were worshiped by Arabs and they were placed in Ka'baa....
Then they were removed by the Prophet Mohammad and his companions .... And he said..
"True comes and falsehood destroyed and false is to be disroyed."
Arab don't pray to these 360 gods they were only the way of their propularity so other places can place their gods in the Kabaa am they can do trade with Yemen and syria

They were polytheistic, and that was part of Mohammed's teachings. Declare Allah as your god, not those other cheap walmart ones.
If you look at the Five Pillars- Mohammed is smart, gets people to come to the businesses around Mecca, thus the business people love the idea and fully endorse it and spread it on the caravans...
One begins to wonder...

they were barbaric people with barbaric customs(like many other people of those times)- some of which are followed to this day!
they came from Ishmail, Abraham's son- so i think they too beleived and prayed to the same God as the jews (and christains!). but as it was all a long time before the prophet Isiah, etc...so, they might not know about Jesus!
another point about the customs, which some people beleive to be muslim are actually barbarian arabic customs and got haneded down to the new muslim converts!
well, thats what i gather from some of the books that i have read!!!

many worshiped idols but there were still people who were jews, christians, as well as from other faiths going back to abraham himself which muslims believe was muslim himself (do not mistake a muslim as follower of mohammad but someone who has submitted to the will of God). Therefore, God was not entirely unknown to arabs, just very uncommonly thought of.
