Someone said that in my county it's only 10 dollars but my employer is taking out WAY more than that. Is this true?

Does the tax depend on where you live or where you work? And does anybody know what it is for columbia county?

The occupational privilege tax is taken by the municipality that you work in, not where you live. I believe $52 is the maximum amount allowed by state law. The local government determines the amount.

Some areas, Pittsburgh is one, take out $52 - I think they've changed the name to Emergency Services (EMS) tax. Many smaller areas just take the $10 that's been in effect for years. It's not controlled by county - it's the municipality you work in.

yes it does. the further north you go the higher the tax is. I do not know why, but that is how it is.
