I mean if America is the Land of the free, why theres not freedom in that aspect ?

Honestly I see no reason why any person on Earth that is not happy with the way things are going in his country of residence, should not feel free to go elsewhere. It was like that back in the days. As long as they asimilate the culture pay taxes and do everything a good citizen would do, I dont see no reason.

There are resasons and a justifications, and the two differ.

The reasons include: (1) self-interest -- people like to run into the castle of prosperity and then close the gates behind them; (2) xenophobia, racism, etc -- fear of others; (3) a desire to preserve dominance of their particular language, race, culture, that would be threatened by an influx of others.

There's also a little bit of game theory involved. If all nations acted responsibly the world would be a better place and people would not need to immigrate. For America to act alone by lettting in all comers, without other countries fixing their political and economic messes or acting fair to Americans, we would end up shouldering the costs of a lot of the world's problems. Remember the Mario boat lift, when Cuba sent its dissidents and criminals over to Florida? In the long run Florida and America both came out wonderfully from the vibrant new Cuban-American culture. But in the short term, what a mess! Imagine that boat lift, but unending and 100 times bigger.

As for justifications, I don't think America has the resources to absorb any significant fraction of the number of people who would want to move here. We are already the most generous nation on Earth for immigration, and balance the needs of assylum-seekers, economic migrants, foreign families of existing workers, skilled workers and investors who want to relocate, and so on. Some may disagree with the balance but we try to strike one. As a second justification, many people have unrealistic expectations of how good life is in America and are severely disappointed to find that it is harder to succeed than they thought, and even when they do they are homesick for their old country and the new money does not bring them happiness. We have to make sure that people who come do so for the right reasons, not on a whim.

I do agree that we are no better than anyone in any other country, and we do not deserve to be American any more than they do. We are just the lucky ones to have been born in the right place, or to have been allowed in.

Ahem.....
Ever Heard Of NATIONAL SECURITY??

America is the Land of the free, Thats Why Nearly Every Nation On The Planet Would Like To See Us Go Up In Smoke

Would You Prefer That Anyone Can Just Stroll In To Your Nation At Any Time Perhaps Carrying A WMD Or A Vial Of Smallpox??

Perhaps You'd Like To See An Outbreak Of Malaria Or Tuberculosis In YOUR Neighborhood, Caused By An ILLEGAL Alien That Entered The Country Without A Proper Health Screen??

Ohhh....I Get It....We Should Secure Our Border From These Threats And Make EXCEPTIONS For Those YOU See Fit To Enter

Are You Really THAT Misinformed About These Issues
Or Are You Just PRETENDING To Be Stupid??

You Stated
"I see no reason why any person on Earth that is not happy with the way things are going in his country of residence, should not feel free to go elsewhere"
There Are 6 Billion PPL On This Planet
Would You Like To See Them ALL
Living In The Land Of The Free, Home Of The Brave??
How Free Would You Be Then??
How Brave Would You Be??

Get Your Head Outta Your @$$
Wake Up And Smell The Threat To Our National Sovereignty

SOVEREIGNTY

Look It Up........
*******************************

airports wont allow you to get that into any country,
So Why Shouldnt Someone Who Might Want To Bring A WMD Into The USA Smuggle It Across The Border In A Truck, Like They Do With Illegal Aliens Or Drugs
You And The Rest Of The Open Borders Crowd Are Ridiculously Naive

But that's the hub of the question ... as long as they assimilate and pay taxes ... which so blatantly some people in this country do not want to do ... also, consider this: the majority of countries on this Earth are unfortunately poorer than the United States ... and by definition, the people in these countries will want a shot at having a better time ... which means that one hell of Africans and people from the Indian sub continent could save up and come to the United States, just to mention a couple of places ... now also consider that these places are over populated as it is ... we would be talking of at least a couple of hundred million people entering the United States looking for work .... it isn't really feasible, is it?

Because of limitation of resources.

I know the US can support more people than they have now, but assimilating millions, (feeding, housing and educating them while they become productive inhabitants) is an expensive proposition, and should be limited.

The freedom exists, but you have to work within the system, there is a number of people that can be accepted annually without a HUGE impact on the economy, apply for a spot and you are in, if selected.

We don't have migratory freedom because America is a sovereign country, therefore it can never be a human rights issue.

Even on the other side of the globe there are commitments all around to prosecute and stop illegal immigration from all sides.

If you feel that America isn't soveriegn and the constitution is only a piece of paper, I can only imagine how fast you'd give up your freedoms and rights to another country.

There are two kinds of migratory freedoms:

1. The freedom to leave any country. I think this is the ultimate test of a free country, being permitted to :vote with your feet". This is one part of the universal declaration of human rights if I recall correctly.

2. The freedom to enter any country. This used to be common in ancient times, but because of too many abuses (i.e. overpopulation in areas, importing criminal activity from elsewhere, terrorism etc) I highly doubt that many countries would approve of this notion.

A majority don't do these things..... that's just some of the major problems. Just because I like your house doesn't mean that I can move in, and use resources meant for your family... does it?

That is not what 'land of the free' refers to. It refers to freedom of speech.

We pay for education and other services for our poor people, even if they pay the low taxes charged to poor people. Those are expensive services, which is why countries like Mexico do not pay for them for their people.

We don't want to pay for them for their people, either.

We let a ton of people come, even illegally, and gave amnesty when there were 2.3 million of them. As a result, there are now 12 to 20 million and our own children can't get a decent education in our border states. That is hardly fair, since we are the people paying for it.

It is because we pay for services for poor people that we limit how many poor immigrants can come to begin with. That is why we need to continue to limit immigration.

Have you forgotten about 9/11? Do I REALLY need to say anything more?

OK, so because there are terrorists here, we should allow MORE in, unchecked even? Makes sense right? What an idiot. You have the mentality of a child buddy, grow up a little. "Well HE did it too!"
