We are becoming ruder and less tolerant each day. Why have we failed have we just become evil or has the demands on us just made it so that we are less than humane or human.

There was a time when we lived in peace has greed undermined the entire planet?

Sure there are problems in society, but then so have there been throughout history. Armies running around the world killing people, taking other people's land and countries, slavery, torture, public capital and corporal punishment, witch hunts etc.

In recent times we have a level of health care that is miraculous compared to even 100 years ago. We have access to technology , products and services that would have been out of reach for most families even 50 years ago.

Most of sitting on our computers playing with Yahoo! Answers have a quality of life that would have been unimaginable just 200 years ago.

Sure there are still problems in the world, lots of hate and violence. Backwards cultures ruled by religion as opposed to common sense and democracy. There are problems of disease and poverty and so on.

But to imply that we live in some horrible rude intolerant society that has failed and become evil, less humane or human as you put it is really just preposterous nonsense. If you are older then you are simply looking backwards through rose tinted glasses. If you are younger you are simply regurgitating nonsense spouted by old timers who think that society used to be perfect, when in fact it was a violent, racist and sexist culture.

So -- when was it that we lived in peace and there was less greed? Was it in the 1980s when we were still in the Cold War with Russia and Reaganite greed ruled the world? Was it in the 1960s and 1970s when the Middle East was exploding, Northern Ireland was in flames and the US was in Vietnam?

Was it in the 1950s when we were in Korea and Russia was testing nuclear weapons and people were building bomb shelters?

Was it in the 1930s & 1940s when Hitler was killing six million Jews and three million Catholics?

Was it in the 1920s when prohibition gave rise to the mafia?

Was in in the first twenty years of the 20th century when we went from war to war -- leading to WWI?

Was it in the 19th century when we had wars with Spain, England, Mexico and a civil war? When we had slavery?

Just when was this time of peace that you mention?

Yes I am pretty sure if there is a god, this is not how he quite envisioned the world. Every time I hear about someone drowning their kids, people getting babies sucked out of their wombs, people all over the world starving to death, children getting abused, countries blowing each other up, and people doing things just to be evil like skinning cats alive, I really wonder what the hell is wrong with people. Why can't people just be nice and the world could be a wonderful place with no suffering? Maybe people are too busy with their daily lives, going to work, coming home, watching tv, etc to take a step back and see that the world really has some issues. Maybe they are too busy to try and makw the world a better place.

Firstly I don't know of a time in history when we all (all people everywhere) lived in peace. To answer your question in my opinion, we choose to take little time in expressing ourselves and our opinions so we can be understood by the person or people we are talking to. Some of us also spend little or no time thinking about our opinions critically. We just feel something is right or wrong and never come up with an argument that even satisfies us for the opinion.

If you can't understand you can't identify with.., and feel or show true empathy. Empathy is required for kindness.
