Reason, Logic & Faith; You always have to reason things out, & you usally try to find answers logically, but, sometimes reason & logic just don't work, then go with faith. No truly important issues can be dealt with, with just one of these. Just as the world is not purely black & white, but, full of shades of gray, there are many ways of looking at things........ Scripture is a good history book.

Reason and logic tell me that the earth and life did not just accidentally form from nothing; somehow we were created and that is a miracle of God which gives me faith in the scripture. So, I support both.

If a man was standing on a street corner saying that a meteor was heading towards the earth and the earth was going to end, and a couple of days later it was all over the news that a meteor was heading to earth and the earth was going to be destroyed, the logical thing to do would be to believe the man that was standing on the corner prophesying.

Yet...

The Bible, written thousands of years ago, is full of prophecies. Most of them have already come true. This can be documented throughout history. Some of them are coming true right before our eyes. Only a very few are left to be fulfilled. We are watching these prophecies be fulfilled right now. And yet people laugh at and dismiss the Bible. They won't read it, but they condemn it. They won't study it, yet they call it illogical.

It seems to me that the logical thing to do would be to go with the Bible - since it has already proved itself to be right.

Another thing that defies logic to me is this...

If I believe in God, and it turns out that you were right and that God didn't exist, then when I die, I lose nothing. But if you don't believe in God, and it turns out that I was right and God does exist, then when you die, you lose everything.

So why do people keep turning away from God? That defies logic.

Faith and Scripture. The reasoning and logic of humankind is always flawed and prejudiced. I cannot reason through a problem using my own logic without being partial to my desires. This is to say that pride gets in the way of making a correct assumption of the truth. By Biblical definition faith is belief in something that is not seen. We cannot see God, but we know that he exists by observing the phenomenon occurring in the world that is beyond science and reasoning to explain. Scripture is God's holy word revealed to us---it is truth and must be accepted on faith. God is infallible---humans fail every second of every day. I can trust God to provide for me (faith) because he created all things including me, and his word tells me that he will never abandon or forsake me. I have trusted God and he has provided for me beyond my wildest expectations. I have trusted people and they have always let me down. It is through experience that I trust scripture through faith.

Why not both? Each has a place in our lives. Reason and Logic helps us get through our day. Faith and Scripture help us to stride to do better.

I hope this helps.

If you are not using reason and logic to read the bible you are not really paying attention to the bible. I support faith and scripture deciphered through reason and logic.
